Incase anyone was looking to start brewing their own coffee (and ditch the instant coffee mixes), I wrote a post for a friend highlighting options available in India (under 5K) which I think might be useful to some folks here as well. Let me know if you have any questions! http://srbh.me/coffee

Not a coffee expert or a coffee person at all, but just want to know isnt normal filter coffee types much simpler to these concoctions ? I got many around me who are coffee enthusiasts people so want to know if the traditional filter is better or these could be better.

A lot of filter coffee in India comes from blended low quality bean. Because it is mixed with chicory to work for the filtration method it sells just fine in south india. Higher quality bean with better roasting often gets exported.
But for the aroma and the simplicity and accessibility filter coffee wins hands down .At least in the south.
@loud-glass-33663 super post. Finally something I can weigh in on here at RI πŸ˜„
I’ve switched to aeropress after french press and grind my own bean from blue tokai as well. Compared to the beans from starbucks, Pete’s , blue tokai has some really amazing roasts

@adorable-musician-78571 I have found filter coffee to be difficult to get right for myself. Because your coffee is quite a bit in the hands of the local roaster + how much chichory they add, etc. So it varies a lot. If you get filter coffee wrong, then it is extremely bitter -- so more sugar required. I never have sugar with my coffee - so it varies. For my filter coffee fix, I simply buy these packs from Amazon - they work quite well. https://amzn.to/31DY30w Truesouth decoction. They make them well and are also consistent. No brainer to make a great cup πŸ™‚
@brash-flag-12364 Thank you. πŸ™‚ What grinder do you use? Also, do you still use the French Press or have switched over to the Aeropress completely? If so, on what occasions do you fall back on the French press?
b
No french press anymore because the process is not as clean. IoW I’m lazy to clean πŸ˜„ I use a stainless steel hand grinder ( a 10m ritual every morning) I picked up on amazon. It’s a burr grinder so I can control the quality of the ground for espresso/americano that I like and capuccino that my wife enjoys
l
@brash-flag-12364 Wow. I admire your patience and resilience. πŸ™‚ I had a hand grinder once and it was so painful to grind even 10gms for a cup of coffee -- that I packed it up. Worse was when people came over and demanded coffee πŸ˜• Its a pity electric burr grinders are so expensive 😞 I recently was gifted an espresso machine - so I am having to buy pre-ground coffee for that from Blue Tokai. My electric blade grinder works quite well for the Aeropress.
b
The withdrawals I have without my coffee forces me to go through with the grinding every morning πŸ˜„ Yeah, not so much fun when you have to do it for a group. My folks drink filter coffee which I make the previous night for them so thankfully I don’t have to ground for others.

Nice informative article @loud-glass-33663 :) I prefer french press, retains the natural flavor of the coffee. I also used blue tokai but I switched to illy.

Not a coffee expert here. But I just tried the Sleepyowl coffee (got through cred points) and it's good! Anyone tried it?
