Have a question on print quality of physical books. I read both physical books and use my Kindle as well as the Kindle app on my Mac, iPad. I have a high preference for physical books. (Surprisingly or not I seem to prefer reading on the Mac, iPad than the Kindle. ) Unfortunately I am put off the by the quality of the print books that I purchase from Amazon. I believe this is a publisher issue and thought few of them had this problem. Recently I ordered a hardcopy via Cloudtail and chose to pay more for the hardcopy because I assumed that the print would be better. This was an O’Reily book btw. Was so disappointed with the Xerox like quality of the pages that I tagged it for “Return” even before the delivery guy left my apartment complex. For those who prefer physical books and or buy them, is this something that you see a lot? What do you do about it? As I ask, I realise that there may be no other option than to live with these but I at least want to try to get better quality books.

Unfortunately not much you can do there. You get the LPE editions in India for most tech books - which make it affordable but the quality is 🤷‍♂️
Just went through my stash of recently bought dead tree books - all Amazon and the quality was decent. No complaints. But these are paper back books for non-fiction. Were you referring to Tech books or general fiction / non-fiction books?

Amazon has a serious problem of counterfeit books which is known quite well.

Hardcover is good, most paper backs are flaky and I prefer physical books so that's a pain.

@loud-glass-33663 I don’t know if O’Reily series ( Lean ** ) fall into LPE editions? I guess they would fall under non-fiction, technically the business, management series. The particular book I wanted to purchase was “Lean Analytics”. Where do you get these Dead Tree books from? @acceptable-flag-71699 I am assuming that Cloudtail being an Amazon subsidiary should at least be free from the issue of counterfeit books. 😞 @crooked-tent-69024 very ..

@many-minister-78351 No, Amazon itself has been selling counterfeits. Example: https://twitter.com/billpollock/status/1183094406573748225

@acceptable-flag-71699 Wow I have no comments seriously. Not surprising but did not expect this. I am however surprised that his review got posted. Whenever I have posted a critical review of an Amazon basics product the review has been rejected. I ordered wooden hangers from Amazonbasics and thankfully we had not unpacked them completely. Next day we find 11-12 big insects (couldn’t identify them) in the hangers and the package. The review with pictures got rejected

@many-minister-78351 Yeah. O'Reily books would come under the LP (low priced) editions for South Asian countries. They are technical books - I have had weird pages + printing on them which I have even purchased from local book stores - but now that I think about it, they could be counterfeit as well 🤷
