Cheapest way to buy Macbook Pro this coming Black Friday as someone currently in India?
h
Doubt we’ll have anything massive for black friday.
c
Hope you are considering the 2019 16" version.
l
I had called Reliance Digital yesterday. It is 1.99L for the i7 / 512 GB and 2.4L for the i9/1TB version including GST. Which I found to be similar to how much the US version is (before taxes). So if you have GST registration, the i9 would end up costing 2.04L. He said expected this week in Pune.

I don’t think Apple does anything for Black Friday / cyber Monday in the US as well? 🤷‍♂️

I am using this and I’d say don’t get the one with the butterfly keyboard when you can get the new one.
If you don’t want a 16 inch, just wait.
r
@helpful-raincoat-87337 Yes, true. Will like to get the scissor keyboards. But if I am getting a good deal right now, can consider buying the butterfly one as well.

@loud-glass-33663 How does having GST benefits? I guess you get your GST back when you forward sale something to someone else. How does that work for Laptop?
r
Apple is doing gift cards this year in the US https://www.apple.com/shop/gifts/shopping-event

@millions-ice-83302 I provide service to my client. I charge them GST. So over Rs. 100 of service, I charge them Rs. 18 - which I pay to the govt. Now when I buy a laptop for Rs. 50, GST on it was Rs. 9. So this month, I need to pay the govt only Rs. 18 - 9 = Rs. 9 in GST. That is a simplified explanation. But anything you use professionally - laptops, flight tickets, mobile phone, etc. you can get GST back. It is called input credits.
m
Yeah I just asked this to my accountant.

Again the age old debate, do you still find mac efficient when compared windows for programming? I have been using Mac and XPS, I recently find Windows is catching up. Recently with WSL2, I guess,it is becoming almost similar. My personal opinion. 😄
r
Oh right, windows with WSL is doing extremely well. Also laptops are cheaper and we have 12-hr battery backup models as well. But used to the Mac ecosystem for now, though I think Windows will slowly start taking the lead in a coming years.
l
I am torn. I have both a Win + WSL2 machine (2012 Thinkpad) and a Macbook Pro (mid 2012 model) And I am torn between a Surface laptop 3 & the new 16" Mac. Unfortunately can probably afford only 1. Windows is extremely efficient for me - especially the file management and just getting stuff done quickly. But mac seems to be more reliable & process efficient - doesn’t slow down as bad as a Win machine. Recently moved back to Mac after ~ 3 months on a Win + WSL setup. 🤷
m
As someone who has always to buy my own mac, I couldn't afford that time, I went for next best thing, XPS, with the highest possible spec, less than half the price of the macbook pro(I guess that was Black friday Sale in dell US website last year!), I would say turned out one of the good decisions, the 4k display is worth and touch makes it easier if you are reading/designing, if you prefer that! And mostly the process efficiency is depending on the configs, obviously you need to go for windows laptop with higher configuration than the MAC!

@loud-glass-33663, Do you also charge GST to yiur international clients?
l
@acceptable-parrot-68168 I don’t have international clients anymore. The company I worked for incorporated in India and hence the gst 😞 But AFAIK, you don’t need to charge gst for exported services. You need to upload a LOU in the GST portal saying that X income you will receive is exported and hence you won’t be filing also
