Does anyone here use any tool/service/application/hack to micro manage slack within the app( like bots) or outside of it? Like - 1. If I want to create a category/profession wise list of members here for my own future reference. Ex. If I want to DM someone whom I talked to about a month ago and I don’t remember the name. The DM sidebar section also shows only a limited or recent chat contacts. Starring a contact will also make the list long. Anything to handle this ? 2. If I want keep record of my own posts or some important thread ( similar to starred or pinned message)

If I remember correctly @calm-grass-85557 uses something like this to archive Slack posts? Not sure though.

I believe he was planning to have something like this the last time we met. I was also planning to build a bot to backup the messages on a daily basis and helps us search when we have to. The data structure took some time so havent proceeded much

you mentioned 2 needs from 1 - whom do you contact the most? 2 - why is a record important? what do you do with it? Basically - why do have a need for this? What moment did you feel you needed this? Can you elaborate. How I approached this problem? - I used to spreadsheet this. And also have a tab breaking dowm all the steps - i write every single step i take to do the task - i.e. person says hi, i switch tabs , copy this name ... At the end of the week - I have more clarity on what i need also - i find product to cut down 10 steps to 5 to 1 and so on built a dummy app or a dummy slack bot - iterate iterate - & become more clear

Hey @crooked-daybreak-310 I would love to explore some ways to improve the experience on slack. I think Priya above has some great ideas on how we could think better about this problem. If you elaborate on the above questions, that would be really helpful.

Lets do it! I am genuinely tired of doing this alone 🤕 & using products that double my work. Its just sad. I did demos with about 20-30 out of of 50 community platforms. What I saw - truly sad - so sad :(

I believe Samir wanted some kind of Archiving and Searching stuff that we were talking @calm-grass-85557, with a little more personalization on the people who you chat with etc. One problem that we might have in this is that when you back your messages, it has to be a central repo for the entire community and not each individual( repetition of messages). But when you do that, it takes the privacy of your communications out. So we need to plan it in such a way that channels are publicly held with the community owner and messages are only stored on each participant. Am I deviating or confusing or not? 🤔

You are not deviating. the "etc" in your post is what i want you to elaborate - @adorable-musician-78571 you are answering this question "how you can solve the need with the bad product we are using now." I am asking - "Forget that we are on slack. what all do you need to do when you meet RI group of people" Tell me situations - i can pull out the needs - the user story. Leave a voice note - cause its annoying to type out a need. eg: I need to find a designer I cannot remember one I go through contacts I spoke to someone in RI Who is he? I search designer he didnt add his profession to bio Okay i found 25 intros on slack channel I went through all then i remembered samir cause he mentioned he has a cat. Found him! But oh no - he does graphic design I want logo design he refers. I want user story. you wont get a good product without step1 - user story. Half-as# user story, the more crappy the product. Look at Rahul Vohra 😮 rapportive/Superhuman Founder OMG that guy kills in product cause he knows the ups & downs a user goes through. builds a product you will never delete. PS apologies for cursing cause I honestly hate most products i use. @crooked-daybreak-310 just search for rahul in this article below. his method will be useful for you. or not - Let me know? https://firstround.com/review/the-30-best-pieces-of-advice-for-entrepreneurs-in-2018/

Hello everyone. Sorry for coming back to the thread so late. Was occupied with some travel and events. @cool-gold-71762 you have rightly covered some of the user stories above. Thanks for sharing the link. I’ll go through the article. My objective of this thread was to know the ways people here are already using to deal with such situations. Thanks for sharing your experience. I won’t think of doing it the manual way now, atleast. Here is my actual use case scenario to add into the user story. I spoke to many people on weekly donut app pairing over last few months and we had decided to meet when I visit their city. Since I have not managed any separate list of these people and I don’t remember all the names now. Neither of them are visible on my chat sidebar as well. I wanted to find results to my following queries - 1. List the people that I have spoken over during donut app pairing. Maybe the bot might have some stats on this. 2. Incase I remember the name and want to DM the person for a meetup. Although I would mostly recall the profession and my conversation, but there could be important links and references from the call that I am sure I might miss. Ofcourse there would be ways to do it manually or semi automatically like in a spreadsheet. 3. If I know the profession, skills and relevant interests of the person I’m planning to meet in his/her city, I would be able to strategize the meetup and prepare the Q&As accordingly to make the best out of our conversations. This would also save some time spent on basic intros. I was in Delhi last week and I missed to connect to some people there whom I had promised to meet because I didn’t remember their names and had not saved their details anywhere else either. Please point out if you find anything missing on this from the user story perspective. cc @calm-grass-85557 @adorable-musician-78571 .
