Most of the stuff described in the article have been fixed. I am sure like all other software there will be bugs and data leakages but it is a call you take based on whether you value convenience over extremely strong privacy. The article paints an overtly pessimistic picture.

A lot of things have NOT been fixed. See https://twitter.com/dhh/status/1245111803664687106
I think it ultimately depends on what your expectations out of the software are.
If you pay for it you will probably hold them to higher standards. Most people who are complaining belong to the paying group so I think it is a fair ask.
I don’t think people will stop using Zoom in general as TC reports but some woke organizations like Basecamp(which already moved) will move away.

When something is claimed without delivering it in reality, it becomes unethical conduct and needs to be addressed. To address something like this, it needs calling out. I'd disagree with @loud-glass-33663 on the part that TC overreacted with a pessimistic outlook. I saw a father express his concerns on that Twitter thread with DHH, for his daughter's privacy because the daughter's school has been using Zoom during this pandemic. Zoom CEO says it has been used by 90,000 schools since lockdowns started. I can't even imagine how many parents should be / would be concerned for their kids' privacy. Infosec exists for a reason!
Also, saying that the scale of operations that COVID-19 brought for Zoom was what delayed security fixes from being rolled out after being called out is just shifting responsibility from the organization to a global crisis. They may never have admitted to it if someone like TC hadn't called them out.
This was very much required, and I'm glad it happened finally. But as TC says, they've got a long way to go.
