Any recommendations for monitor. what things I should consider ? Will mainly use iit for programming
v
1. What computer do you have and how much can it drive? 2. Budget. That being said: But any 4k monitor bigger than 21" and you will be good. For Mac OS, best choice is USB-C 4k monitors. All of them are good, even entry level.
I personally prefer crisp text rendering that retina screens provide and don't like having a lot of real estate. My current setup: 27" 4k monitor that runs in a 1920x1080 resolution

which brands are more reliable ? my budget is around 20k. Monitor with usb c support are more on expensive side.

Re brands: I like dell/LG

https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01N6W8QRA/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_s7XWEb44VME47 This is a good contender under your budget, also points for being curved and beautiful. Looks like someone nabbed the last piece. It was only 19k.

@adventurous-fireman-74405 I prefer having 2 monitors over 1 large monitor. If you get a VESA compliant monitor and a VESA stand, you could have one horizontal and one vertical as well. Something to think about.

@echoing-sugar-95154 This is my primary 21" monitor. Non VESA - but great display. https://amzn.to/2Tl7C2u - Had paid 7.5K back in Mar 2015 This is my 19" VESA compliant monitor - https://amzn.to/3e21XXh - Had paid 7.1K back in Mar 2016 So not too expensive. I also bought a VESA stand from Tanotis (Similar to this Amazon Basic one - https://amzn.to/2TiYOu8 which costs 2k) So within a budget of 17K you can be set. My 19" monitor is not that great to be honest - but I use it mostly as a secondary screen as my laptop also serves as a screen.
This is how my setup looks like. Though the left most monitor is on the VESA stand and I can turn it vertically when needed. Unfortunately as it is too wide, it becomes a pain to use it vertically 🤦‍♂️ So don’t use that too much in the vertical position.

I use a displayport to usb-c cable to connect to my 4k LG. Most monitors come with displayport, which has a higher bandwidth than standard hdmi

@loud-glass-33663 Thank you so much for the information.i deleted my question as I found out the monitor I bought is VESA compliant. Anyway, the fact that you only had to spend about 17k for the whole setup is making me reconsider my purchase. Sick setup! Thanks again.

Completely agree with @loud-glass-33663 on the two monitor setup. One always has code, the other has a browser, chat, terminal windows, music player, etc. I've got two 25" ones. The ASUS (right) has a beautiful IPS display with 100% sRGB (so great color). The Dell on the left is a basic one. I prefer to spend more on a keyboard, mouse and monitor, than say, the latest CPU, since I stare at it 10hrs a day.

that looks great @loud-glass-33663 is that mbp powering both the displays? Also which year’s mbp is that?
i’ve same mbp i believe mid 2014 i7 but it is having trouble even powering one single 21' display

Do monitors come with hdmi cable generally or I'll need to buy cable separately ?
b
^ In my experience - yes BUT you should check for your specific model. Unboxing videos / Reviews / Tech specs should tell you.

@chilly-lock-4986 that was a 2012 MBP 13". Powered one display via the thunderbolt -> HDMI converter and one via a USB -> DVI converter using DisplayLink. Thankful that I can now directly connect the USB-C ports to the monitors directly on the new MBP 16" without using the DisplayLink attachment in the new machine. Performance wise, the DisplayLink tended to be slightly laggy (still played YouTube ok) but overall worked fine. I did not have any major hangups. It was the Intel i5 processor I think.

@loud-glass-33663 Was the old MBP useable? A friend of mine stopped using his 2012 MBP years ago ( He had a CD drive too, MD101HNA I think) because it became unusably slow
l
@abundant-jackal-54634 Yes ofcourse. I used it for 5 years! 😊 Though, I bought it from Amazon fresh when I started remote work and made 3 modifications: Bumped up RAM from 4 -> 16 GB, switched the HDD for an SSD and swapped the DVD rom drive with it’s original 512 GB HDD. So it was quite usable. Still is for most purposes. Only the screen resolution was a pity. So under 70-75K with modifications, it is a great Mac to use. I also appreciated the fact that you could open it up and repair it yourself. (It has undergone multiple HDD cable changes).
a
Nice, you can’t do any of that stuff anymore😕 As for the resolution, I know so many people who still buy the old Macbook Air with the crappy display(worse than the 2012 MBP) just so that they can have that glowing apple logo
a
I prefer a single large monitor over two small ones: • Whatever you can do with two monitors can be done with one with just software. • I don't have a TV so this acts as a replacement for watching movies / videos etc • Cleaner desk for cables/ports etc. GST is definitely higher for monitors bigger than 32". So, one single 32" is what I have right now. If I could afford more, I'd get a single 43" 4K.

@acceptable-flag-71699 do you recommend any specific model/brand?
a
I'm not a fan of ultra-wides. Dell/LG brands are better, but at lower budget Acer has good options.

@adventurous-fireman-74405 did you get any final monitor? Amazon has all unavailable for my area
a
@swift-pilot-25722 sellers hiked prices of most of the monitor, so i didn;t buy any.

My current laptop has only one HDMI out, so I settled with one large 27inch BenQ Monitor GW2780. I'm very happy with my purchase. A 27inch feels so good after a tiny 14inch ultrabook. I struggled a lot between choosing a normal monitor and a gaming monitor, as I plan to build a gaming rig in the next months. I'll be taking the 24inch BenQ Zowie in the later part of this year and use it alongside the new one.
