If my productivity is 80% of a US counter-part, I can still get the job by offering equal RoI, by taking 80% pay.
v
This is hypothetical, and not what is being discussed at all.
b
^ Exactly. All the discussion is considering people at the same skill levels.

I don't know if you've done any hiring. Employers don't just think in terms of "person X meets our quality bar, and therefore deserves our standard pay - irrespective of geography". They think in terms of "return on investment" - how much it costs to hire X and how much benefit they get out of it.
GitLab is making this offer because they think it gives them the best RoI. They might be wrong. If you want to prove them wrong, don't accept their offers.
b
don’t accept their offers.
That’s what I said in one of my messages. BUT that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t disagree with someone’s policy of paying people.
v
They're only getting a better RoI by under-paying people. What we're saying is, "go make your profits somewhere else", not by under-paying people.

This isn't true. So many employers do.
