Have you seen people getting paid more by the same (remote) employer when the move to a pricier city?
a
Yup!

Nice

Facebook actually needs you to return to base only 1 time / year (at the start of the year?) So once that location is set with them, you are free to move around for the rest of the year? (Atleast that is what I understood from their message).
a
I didn't read their message, what is the base? SF or their subsidiaries in different countries?
l
Can’t find the text of the announcement right now — but Menlo park is the highest bracket. They actually pay a $15K bonus at present if you shift to Menlo Park. So if you move out, it will be calculated down. But I remember reading that they won’t be asking you to update you location regularly. Base salary will be recalculated once a year depending on your location on a particular date.
a
Does that mean you get an SF salary if you go to SF on the day of the recalculation and after the check-you can go live in Thailand for the rest of the year?
l
I would suppose so. I think it is more for compliance for them compared to saving money.
I mean if you did that often, you would get judged by your co-workers (who knew the truth) and might not be very
facebookly
(if they have an alternate for
googly-ness
) of you.
