Apple is now allowing configuring Macbooks in India. Looks like the authorized resellers do it. https://techcrunch.com/2020/05/27/apple-begins-offering-macs-with-custom-configurations-in-india/

Alas, still no 16gb option
r
16gb graphics?
v
RAM (in MacBook Air)

It does list 16gb on the website https://www.apple.com/in/mac/compare/. But is it not available locally? @victorious-energy-56764
v
Not available as a configuration.

Even in US the only configuration is 8GB. You add-on +8GB to make it 16GB via the website. IMHO the same is now legal here, but only via offline resellers. If you want to do that from the Apple website (like US folks), you will have to wait till they launch the online store this year.

No, you can buy the 16GB right from the website.

It's not about being legal -- it will always be legal. It's not up on the website yet, since they haven't launched an "Apple Store" in India. What that means is, if they do sell the 16GB variant here, it will be through Amazon / iPlanet etc. And none of them have received any word about 16GB variants yet.

Just spoke with local apple resellers in Delhi, they are offering 16gb, 32gb (for pro), etc. Whatever customisation you want (that is listed on the website).

I spoke to iPlanet Bangalore, 16gb models will arrive in 1 month. Yay!
Both for Air and Pro

They had recently gotten approval to sell directly from their site and apple owned stores like they do in the US... Looks like they are preparing for the online store launch on apple.com/in
