SEO noob question Any advantages/disadvantages to using dev.to for my product's blog? As compared to hosting the blog on the product website itself? Will the former boost the backlink count (to my product website)?
h
Not an SEO expert by any means but one recommendation that I got was to do my own blog and then also post to dev.to and Medium with canonical URLs.

I recommend what Faraz said. The main point is that you should always publish on a domain you control.
Hosting is free ( Jekyll + GH pages etc.)

Good point!

And dev.to offers first-class "reposting", so I usually post there too

Thanks, I'm going to look into this suggestion.

Re-hosting, look into Ghost as well. It’s the least amount of effort and they take care of so much for you.

@flat-parrot-23237: IIRC, you once mentioned using ghost for signoz blog. Is that correct? Pros/cons?
c
dev.to has good domain authority score.

Does dev.to have dofollow links? I'm no expert either, but if all the links on dev.to are nofollow, you won't get SEO benefits for your product website.
c
Yep, i wrote a blog for client's website and got dofollow link. I also republished same with hackernoon and got almost the same DA score with dofollow link
What's more interesting is that Hackernoon cross posts it with other similar domains and some of them have got a good DA score. TBH, these DA score are all just a reference metric from third part tool and has no relevance with Google. Just make sure they are dofollow or not.

@magnificent-solstice-42554 - Yes, we user ghost for SigNoz blog. Works pretty well for us. Good SEO optimization. And comes with a default dark theme which devs love πŸ™‚ - Here's a sample https://signoz.io/blog/opentelemetry-kubernetes/
Migration is also pretty good. I have never used wordpress etc. so don't know what are the cons πŸ™‚
