I have been seeing a lot of trouble with old Apple MagSafe chargers. A colleague just sent me this. After replacing the connector a few months ago. Anyone here faced similar troubles? If yes, one simple trick that will make your connectors last longer, especially old magnetic Apple chargers: Plug in, ensure a good connection, and only then turn on the switch. Avoids sparking which leads to burnt contacts and springs. This applies to other devices too (not so much to modern USB C powered stuff, I think). Any tips you guys recommend to make your devices last longer? Like the obvious one: unplug devices when the weather is bad outside (lightning / thunderstorm).

Right, a very common problem after a few years of use. Magsafe 1 or 2? How old?

Magsafe 2
It was not that old Also one more thing to check if you have magsafe is These tiny pins have spring mechanism which move in & out and dust might cause them to stick in which will also eventually led to it burning out

Also, stop charging if the connector overheats.

Good point.

If you are in Bangalore. There is a company called fixxo that fixes just the cable part of magsafe charges.

Mine is also a second one now, What I have seen is the non apple ones which you get in market tends to stop working in few months, so Tip No. 1 : Always go for original Apple one 2) Prefer a higher watt charger, this reduces the load on charger and hence lower heating. 3) As @chilly-lock-4986 mentioned check for pins regularly and keep them clean and bouncy 🙂

@quaint-farmer-12353 2. I did not understand how a higher watt charger would reduce heating. Faster charging -> higher temperatures, specifically at the MagSafe connector, no? 3.

higher watt charger won't do faster charging but would heat up lessor as compared to lower watt charger to meet the demand of the laptop.. and your brick wouldn't heat much as comparison with lower watt charger. I've been using 85w after my stock 60w burnt and what not.. heating is not much of an issue now. It is there but comparatively much less
