Saw this website and deleted chrome few months ago. Now on brave.

I switched to Firefox for this very reason 2 years ago. I’m pretty satisfied with it and only use Chrome for experimentation.

Never observed any difference, have 50+ chrome tabs in 2 user accounts.. Apps I use music, figma, evernote, slack and podcasts.

Try new edge browser on windows that seem good

I had switched from Chrome to Brave for the longest time on my older (2012 Mac) because it could just not take it. 😕 Brave is substantially faster. But … Brave causes a LOT of sites to malfunction at bad places. Especially while redirecting back from payment pages. It is not Brave’s fault — sites are not written in a way that Brave expects - so, I had to move back to Chrome. Not happy - but what can you do? Has it gotten better since? I am going to try switching to Edge - even on Mac I think. It is Chromium - and supports all Chrome extensions that you may need. Let’s see.

@loud-glass-33663 I have been using Brave since few months now - it has all the features of chrome as it using chome code - but faster. I also have not seen any issues with payment pages.

Thanks Sheeba for the update! I have just finished installing Edge and going to uninstall Chrome. Going to try this for a few weeks and if it does not work out, I’ll be back on Brave. Thank you for your update. (I had the Brave shields on - and payment pages - especially for smaller ecomm sites or Govt sites would always fail …)

@loud-glass-33663 Just a heads up in case you care about your privacy. Edge is a privacy nightmare. If you guys have performance issues due to too many tabs, just use the Auto Tab Discard extension.

Hey @faint-energy-11966 Thanks for the heads up. While I am aware of the Trinity College study, I would not consider that as a nightmare 😬 I have actually turned off all the diagnostic settings and I am liking the disabling of third party tracking, etc. that Brave does. Did you mean to highlight anything else that raises concerns? (Apart from the smartscreen, un-hashed URLs and device ID stuff that the article mentions?)

I'll give brave a shot. I use Safari primarily but some web-apps don't work on it properly.

I always wanted to get rid of Chrome due to RAM and privacy issues but I am so used to with it’s developer tools as being frontend developer, hence couldn’t switch to other browsers yet. :(

@elegant-rose-70104 Brave and Edge and any other browsers based on Chromium will have the same dev tools and almost the same UI and will support all extensions from the Chrome store as well (almost all). So maybe worth it to give it a shot. In 1 day of using Edge on the mac and iPhone, I am loving the performance. Sites open up instantly and so does the browser. Definitely feels snappier compared to Chrome and the WindowServer CPU usage that Abhishek mentioned is definitely down by about 20-30% for me.

chiming in, ditched chrome years ago, privacy nightmare. Surprised to see little love for good ol firefox here. Containers are my favourite privacy positive extension and something I’d love to see more browsers supporting https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account-containers/

I have cleared cache. (did not delete any extensions yet - just thought I should give a heads up since I earlier had recommended Brave)

Hey @polite-secretary-64403 thanks. I did a speedtest now and saw the same speeds ~ 95 Mbps on all browsers (Brave, Edge, Safari) as well as the Speed Test app. Very possible that the destination server changed for you - and sometimes the server you are running a test against is slow? It is very weird that browsers might throttle speeds (unless they are configured in the console windows)
