Coffee noob here who's been loving his Moka Pot. What should I get next? (Without spending a lot if possible 🙂)

@damp-coat-97256 Get an Aeropress followed by a grinder (if you already haven’t gotten one). For Aeropress and Mocha pot a blade grinder is also good enough. To get better coffee, the next step is to grind your beans as close to making the coffee. I have been using an Aeropress (the same one) for the past 8 years. Cannot recommend it enough. I wrote a post last year discussing various coffee options under 5K in India for a friend. He went with the Aeropress as well and has been quite happy. https://saurabhj.com/2019/08/13/up-your-coffee-game/

@loud-glass-33663 - awesome thanks. I do have a grinder (a cheap InstaCuppa one) but I am not happy with it. Guess you get what you pay for.
@loud-glass-33663 - i am happy with moka pot. Don’t mind the cleaning part that you talk of. Is Aeropress going to add to the experience?
Great read. Any recommendations between the Aeropress and Aeropress Go?

@damp-coat-97256 The coffee drinking experience or the coffee making experience? 😊 Mocha pots are great - but need a stove, etc. to make and take longer. I have a water kettle and can get a great cup of coffee from grind -> cup in under 3-4 minutes including cleaning time which is a big plus for me. Coffee out of an Aeropress will taste slightly similar to the ones you get from an espresso machine - and makes a decent latte. So if you are looking for a change of taste or convenience, then Aeropress would be a good fit.

Yeah been on the edge of getting Aeropress, but convinced now. Go vs normal, which one is better?
l
Go with the regular Aeropress. It is quite portable by itself - unless you are traveling only with a backpack. And you can easily make 3-4 cups in one shot incase you are entertaining.

Ok, got it!

My advice comes on the base of this:

I have not used a Go myself.
BTW - side note - the aeropress comes with 350 filters. And as per Alan Adler, each filter is washable and can be used to make 25 brews. So even if you have a cup every day, the filters will last you ~ 25 years. My filters get re-used for 2-3 weeks on an average.

I have a chemex, hario v60 and aeropress [I am in the coffee cult 😅], with the right beans nothing can beat pour over coffee (chemex and v60) Also depends on if you also enjoy making coffee, chemex brewing takes 15 minutes or so..vs aeropress is quick.. happy to answer any questions in details. +1 for all the aeropress recommendations

Coffee noob with a french press here I absolutely love it, but I’ve never tried an Aeropress or a Moka pot. Which beans do you use? Blue Tokai feels a bit costly to me, so my go-to beans are Lodhi Blend from devans.in

@loud-glass-33663 that was an excellent for-dummies primer on your website 👍 👏

@melodic-jordan-81418 Beans are a very personal choice. A few years ago, I bought every local roaster I could find to try them. Kept coming back to BT. If you like Blue Tokai, they fit a decent price-point for the value they provide. They have bumped prices recently this year - but still seem OK-ish to me. Also depends on how much you end up consuming. If you are heavy coffee drinker, then BT can be expensive. Also yes, BT is usually single-origin and nowadays mostly organic — which is definitely going to be more expensive than blends. But if either those things don’t matter to you (single origin / organic), then BT might be overkill for your coffee fix.

How valid is this? 🤔
l
Umm.. compare the mocha pot filter to the aero press filter. I feel the aeropress filter papers are substantially finer than mocha pot and may end up with extra and dangerous steam build up. Risky.

Been using the french press coffee maker for 5 months now, works great. investing in a good grinder goes a long way. I researched aeropress as well but decided against it due to the usage of the filter paper and knowing how most of these go through chemical treatment during manufacturing.

Loving the AeroPress @loud-glass-33663 🙂
