Hi folks, Just a quick question for my new mac book pro here (not m1) - Should i keep my mac plugged in all the time and remove at night - or should i plugin only when at 15% and remove at 80%

Overcharging is real (although newer macOS versions are addressing it some way), but unplugging at 80% and replugging at 40% (and not 15% which will actually drain the battery quicker) is generally a good practice until devices start to actually prevent battery from overcharging.

Hey @happy-tent-25913 The Mac OS - especially if you are on Big Sur, has excellent battery management and will look at your behaviour and usage and take care of this for you. I have mine always plugged in. After a few weeks, it automatically stopped charging at around 80-85% by itself to prolong battery life because I rarely take it out. Devices nowadays don’t need to be micro managed.

@happy-tent-25913 I would suggest you to plug it out every once in a while to allow the battery to go through a charge-discharge cycle. I had to get my Macbook Pro (13", 2017) serviced last year as the batteries swelled, broke internal components and the bottom casing. The reason they gave me was over-charging, which affects some Macbook models. Currently, my Macbook doesn’t work without being plugged into power ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just to add to this thread — my mac will pause charging at about 80% now (does not charge beyond it) based on my usage — in which I rarely pull it out of charging. If I start switching to battery often, then it will start charging to 100% again. (It was doing that up until a few days ago).
