Hey everyone ,just wanted to know Is current salary being considered when applying for remote jobs for 1. For Abroad 2. For India Suppose if an employee has a package of 7L ₹ , he is eligible and suitable for the role which is offering around 53k-80k in $ or 39k-59k in £ , suppose if he is selected for that role so 1. will he be offered the CTC in between the ranges or 2. current salary will effect the future CTC and he may get offer below the mentioned salary range for that role. If someone can elaborate for both Indian and abroad companies that would be great!! Thanks !

Really depends on the company. Type 1 - Some companies compensate you for your skills and don't penny-pinch. Type 2 - Others are just focused on minimizing employee pay-check and maximizing CEO's wealth. There are some exceptions though. Some companies adjust pay based on location and I don't think that's wrong. As long as they are honest and explicit about it, I think it's fine. I personally wouldn't want to work for any company that decides my compensation based on my previous CTC. Disclaimer - This is based on my limited experience looking for remote jobs in the last 1 year. Since, there are more experienced folks here, you should take my comments with a pinch of salt.

Remote companies (International) ones don’t care about ur current salary - it is purely on skill and their calculation of salary for ur region - The salary calculator of GitLab was the best -it was open but now has been restricted I think

Thanks Jayanth , it cleared my doubt 🙂 👍

Gitlab salary calculator is not public anymore, but an old version from July 2020 is accessible here: http://web-old.archive.org/web/20200721063326/https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/total-rewards/compensation/compensation-calculator/calculator/
