Hey folks. So, I am thinking of starting to stream my code over on Twitch/YouTube. Can someone help me with what kind of hardware/equipment I'd need? I already have a lapel mic, which I use in teaching online. I also have an old Canon 60D. Can someone help me with what I need to get started? I checked some YT videos but I think they are kinda confusing + geared towards gamers. I don't mind buying a capture card but I feel going for a 4K 60fps capture card would do me no good and I'm perfectly happy with a 1080 60/30 fps one, provided I can find out if they make one in the first place. Please see if you help me get started/direct me towards relevant resources? Cheers!

you don't need any of that. To get started, have a good mic and use StreamLabs OBS or OBS and start streaming

too many people invest too much into gear and then get disillusioned. I stream occasionally and I only have my Web cam + mic. Works well.

Alternatively you can also look at StreamYard. Its browser based..

streamyard is good but lacks some amount of control. StreamYard is good for a presentation stream but for live coding you'd want to use something like StreamLabs which lets you define custom scenes so you can switch over to scene A where your terminal, for example, is hidden when you type secrets and such
here's a relatively old stream I did

What @modern-table-48211 said. Get an audience first, then equipment. Purists say that you should only buy equipment from the money the stream makes you. But I feel that might hamper your growth beyond the initial fanbase. So one solution is to give every equipment a target based on consistent average views per stream. Example: Under 20 avg viewers for 7 sessions - Just use your cam, laptop's mic and a free screencasting software. Build this audience from pure content. 20 avg viewers for 7 sessions - Better mic. .. and so on.

Thanks for the input @modern-table-48211 and @dry-monkey-93718.. While getting equipment is the fun part, I feel what you guys are saying makes a lot of sense. A target based solution will work well for me. And I think that's what I'll start with.

@quiet-midnight-20665 I have recently setup decent recording/streaming setup. Saw this in weekly email. Small advice - Don't spend too much on gear . Not more than 10K INR. I can guide you on how to setup high/low price gear. Mine costs around 1Lac. But you can get 70-80% of quality in 10K INR. Adding a sample of my setup. Let me know if you had a specific question.

@millions-ice-83302 Which light are you using as keylights?
m
@acceptable-motorcycle-13682 One led light with plastic diffuser . 1K INR. Table lamp (200) using smart led bulb (500)with cloth diffuser(250). Get as big light as possible. Use a cloth diffuser. A plain thin white cloth would also do a good job.
