Much easier when; • You have your work publically available to showcase (eg; Portfolio site, etc.) • Have a history of open source contributions • Have experience working remotely (pretty much every tech worker has it now) These points aren't must-have but will add to your chances of getting hired.

We Work Remotely, Remote OK, Remotive, StackOverflow Careers, LinkedIn, AngelList. Even the big players list "Remote" now as a choice. Depending on your skills, you can build in public, blog, stream, etc. Makes it easier. None of this is easy but if you are interested in getting high paying contracts and stay remote, it is a price to pay.

Thank you @wide-carpet-65149 and @flat-morning-91037
How many jobs did you applied before getting hired for remote?
f
I don't remember the count but it was over a year of hunting before I got it. That included both serious interviews as well as interviews of companies I had no interest in but did it any way just for experience.

I think my example is an edge case. I am a trying founder and I constantly network with early stage founders. So my financials suck because I go back to being a founder, try and fail. My work experience also does not work for big corps. But it fits really well with early stage startups. I usually have to talk to 3-5 founders and get a contract CTO or tech lead role, part-time only these days.

Just for context of my networking, since @flat-morning-91037 is in GitLab, I met the founders (online and offline) like 6-8 years back. I always network and that helps me get remote work a lot. Builders are easy to talk to in general since they want to network too.
