Question for people who want to retire at X age. What are you planning to do when you 'retire'? Why can't you do it now?

@kind-queen-6796 financial constraints. BTW, can we have a separate channel for FIRE for remote guys like us? or do we already have it?
p
I don’t want to retire because I want my brain to be active. I would love to work till end of life if possible. Even if I don’t get paid for it 😅 If I have to quit professionally I will continue to help NGOs, that is the plan. Let’s see what actually happens

@swift-london-82344 - FIRE => “Finance Insurance And Real Estate” - why not existing #finance channel ? Assuming we all in #finance will benefit with the discussion.
m
@polite-secretary-64403 FIRE is also “financial independence, retire early”

@kind-queen-6796 Thanks for asking these questions. I was going to ask them once we had substantial votes. This will make up for a good discussion topic.

thanks @melodic-jordan-81418, We could still use the #finance channel for these discussion - I am sure each one of us wants to be financial independent

Primary reason for not retiring is not enough saved corpus. Reason to retire is to have autonomy over time. I might continue working most likely, but would like to have the option to retire at the drop of a hat and/or pursue other avenues.

Can we have one more option for people who are not sure?
d
For me retirement isn't "I will not work from this day, and sit at home (lol)". But rather "I am now financial independent enough that I don't need to work and I can think of doing anything now". I could choose to continue working but I don't want to be "I want and need to work". I want it to be "I want to work".

retire doesn't mean that you don't work, it means that you have a choice not to work
l
There is a difference between “retiring” and “working for money”. “Working for money” can happen soon enough but “retiring” probably never.

Thank you @quick-judge-84214 for starting this discussion 🙌 Though I like to believe that the crowd here in RI is different, the overall situation seems to be quite grim in India. We definitely need more education wrt personal finance.

I want to retire at 30 (im 21 right now) so that I can work on my passions (building a game development studio or maybe even expand our existing family businesses)
The reason im in job market right now is because I want to have experience, contacts, and a bit of traveling on my own too! and also experience with dealing with money !
