Would you guys be fine with taking a hiring assessment that: • Records you throughout the assessment via webcam • Takes screenshot of your screen during the assessment at regular intervals. Why/Why not?

No, because nothing is worth that to me.

No, because of the anxiety it will cause.

Depends on how desperate the candidate appearing for the interview is. Most things which corner a person, cannot be generalized. It all depends on individual situation.

Nope. Because I don’t tend to work well in companies that demand such types of assessments. Not a good fit.

I did work on building this feature for a one of the hiring platforms. The arguments that companies put is, some other folk giving the assessment exam, or the person taking help from other people. When the candidate moves to the next level, they usually can't clear the level and it ends up with wasted credits/money used on the platform. I never had to sit in an interview like this, but during the Kubernetes Certification exam they did have a person looking at you throughout the span of the exam. It is creepy and distracting. When they send you messages like "Adjust camera, your face is not clear" in between the exam it does feels weird.

I have actively avoided take home tests / exams / coding tests that use such techniques.

Thanks for sharing your opinion everyone. I thought I was overthinking this because I am a privacy conscious person but it indeed feels invasive. I've cancelled my test 🙂

@faint-energy-11966 You could try communicating politely that this is not something you are comfortable with and would be happy to do a whiteboarding test in an interview setting or on a testing platform that is less invasive.

@faint-energy-11966 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/05/covid-coronavirus-work-home-office-surveillance Companies which do this exhibit very low trust levels for their employees and even if you do get in, it most probably won’t be a fun place to work.
