This has probably been asked & answered before but nonetheless.... I need to block time-wasting sites like twitter, reddit etc on my work machine. Is it possible to do this in firefox WITHOUT an addon/extension? If not, what addon/extension is recommended?

You can always redirect the websites you don't want to visit to 0.0.0.0

If you're on macOS, it has a built in screen time feature where you can limit or block sites. Otherwise I'd just manually set up a blocker hosts file and swap it with the default one. You can alias it to make a very simple toggle. (You'd have to restart dns resolver after you swap hosts in Mac)

I use this for Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/angry-study-helper/bpbdbiickajcfeoilijnjlgchjjlfakj?hl=en edit: not exactly a blocker but it gets me on track 😛

I use Freedom

Thanks everyone for the recommendations!

+1 for Freedom. Especially for someone like me who eventually edits the hosts file for a temporary unblock and then forgets to block it again

I use a simple Python tool called concentration which edits the distractors list into
/etc/hosts
for you. Pretty nifty and light.

This addon has been absolutely helpful for me in terms of reducing the “Caffeine induced hype” of sorts for content… https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/privacy-redirect/ It basically redirects you to privacy friendly alternatives that do not suggestion you customised content to feed on your hunger for content
