Can someone coming from US to India carry 2 laptops? The rules are vague on this 🥴

Work and personal? Just make sure they are not shrink wrapped / packed.

According to the rules, if you want to bring multiple laptops, you either have to carry a note from the office that one of the laptops is an office property. Or while emigrating, you can get a note from the excise dept that you're taking the laptop from India. But no one checks this unless it looks like you're carrying many new electronics for the purpose of selling in India. Like Saurabh mentioned, just removed them from the boxes and you're good.

Not condoning this - but a founder at a startup I know wanted to gift his employees iPhone 4s (this was that time). So he wore cargo pants and stuffed like 2 phones in every pocket and walked out of Mumbai airport 😬 I think brought 12 iPhones or something.
