Hey guys, can anyone with an apple watch help me out? Planning on getting one. GPS or GPS + Cellular?
m
I got the cellular one but only because the price diff was negligible for me. Was planning GPS, and tbh I hardly use it standalone

If you plan to leave your phone behind sometimes, go with cellular. My friend wanted to not take her phone to the library but still receive phone calls + listen to music, etc. So she chose cellular. But it's not that perfect, she's missing calls occasionally (might be range issues). Also, Airtel prepaid doesn't support eSim. Their CC said they'll do the migration if we visit the physical store, but they just wasted a lot of time and said they can't convert and we'll have to get postpaid. So had to switch to Jio.

if you go on runs and hikes a lot and would not want to carry your phone along, then cellular makes sense, else GPS is enough

Cellular any day! It’s a nice freedom to have to be able to stream music from the watch to Airpods. I use it all the time for calls and music while on Runs/Workouts/Swimming (Or anywhere outside the house)

How's the battery life with cellular?
b
Lasts about a day, needs a recharge every 24 hours
b
So calls and music is the only difference? What other apps n usecases are possible in India once you get the cellular?
b
In India, the scope is limited to Workouts, Calls and Music streaming. (since there’s no Apple Pay) But if you live/plan to move to any place that has Apple Pay, you can easily tap your watch and make payments. P.s. Once when I was travelling and my phone died out, my watch allowed me to stay connected to some extent The reception on the watch isn’t as Robust as on the iPhone, but still a nice to have feature

But Apple Pay works on NFC and it should be available even without cellular connectivity, atleast for a few transactions before it needs to sync with the phone again for fresh tokens.

Fair point actually 🤔 I could be wrong about the need for LTE with Apple pay, although I’d let someone else confirm that (I haven’t used it myself)
