Hi folks, I'm looking to buy a 34-inch monitor. Please share recommendations. Should I buy a curved or normal one?

normal one.

Depends on resolution. At 4k-ish, curved will be better since you'll sit closer. At 2k-ish, flat is fine.

Curved would be nice to have considering the distance from your eyes increases significantly towards the edges. I personally have a 32 inch one, and found it hard to read at first (towards the edges); but got used to it over time. Currently using a 32UL750, if you’re okay with a VA panel, only then consider this.

@tall-continent-37497 @dry-monkey-93718 thanks for the response. Any specific model you folks are using?
Thanks @billowy-spoon-1825. I also feel curved one gives a good viewing angle and has lesser reflection. How much did it cost you?

I have the UN880B. For this size and resolution. It's almost necessary to have an IPS panel. Mine costed 55k at the time. If you're going for a curved one, make sure you get the kind of curve that works with where you want to sit. For mine, I sit between 1.5-2.5 feet from the display. Also make sure you can really lower the brightness. Mine's just about right at 11/100 for long hours comfort.

For a 4k monitor, 34-inch tends to reduce the pixel density. Curved monitors give you a feel of packed pixel since your view port reduces but overall, you’re losing on the quality of the display. If you’re a stickler for text quality, do not go beyond 27-inch for a 4K display. 32" and greater you need a 5k to handle similar densities and text+image quality.

@swift-dinner-85530 My 32UL750 is a flat screen, not curved. I got mine for close to 47k

Is there any advantage of buying a 4K resolution monitor over FHD?
d

In terms of real estate, 4k is essentially 4 FHD screens in a 2x2. There's 2k as well. For FHD, get a flat monitor. You'll never sit at a distance which justifies a curved FHD monitor, if it even exists. Having said that, to really help you make a good decision, we need to know what are you going to use your monitor for?

I'm going to use it for day to day to work. Like coding, web surfing and reading/writing.
This is how my current setup looks like. I'm looking to buy a replacement for the left monitor (currently 34-inch curved 2k monitor).

Clean setup! What's the issue with the left monitor? On my setup 150% scaling looks like native 2k. To get a feel for how size of text in 4k would feel like, go on chrome and zoom out to 75%. It will be much sharper ofc.h I typically sit at around 2-ish feet distance (sometimes I pull it closer or push it back depending on the need) At this distance, I don't feel the need for a curve. When I pull it to less than 1.5 feet, it's difficult to read the sides. That's where curve would feel useful I guess. Since you're already using both, you'd already know your preference pretty well. Go with your gut and feel free to ask anything 🙂

Thank you. Actually, I have to give back the monitor to my company. That's why I'm looking for a new one. Though, I'm quite comfortable with a curve shaped monitor right now and I also feel it fits better and gives a great viewing experience. I mostly sit very close to my monitors as well. Since I have to replace it with another monitor now, I thought of taking inputs from folks here to see if there is something specific I should consider while making a monitor purchase. But thanks @dry-monkey-93718 for sharing all your experiences and valuable inputs, it would help me making an informed decision 🙂

4k is literally 2x2 grid layout if used at native resolution without upscaling. I love that I have to scroll less in my code with the 4k monitor 🙂
32 inch 4k is equivalent to 4x1080p 15.6 inch monitors stacked as a
Copy code
[. ][. ]
[. ][. ]
grid 😬

hey, don’t want to hijack the thread, but where can I get a better price for the LG 32UN880. Price on Amazon was 55k in Feb but has gone up since then. Any recommended local retailers in Bangalore?

from Amazon? or a local retailer? Assuming this is the price excluding the monetary value of reward points you’d get on your CC

I bought it in Jan for 55k from Amazon. Around that time Tata cliq had it at 49k. But I didn't trust them and it's possible/easier to claim ITC from Amazon so I went with it.

I bought it from a vendor known as "Calrion Computers" from West Bengal. I was hesitant at first then I got on a call with them and found them to be genuine, so went ahead and ordered it.
