Someone prolly already has brought this up but Slack has this 10k messages limit and it is making us loose a lot of knowledge in this community. Should we migrate to Discord server? plus one to this if you are in Also, who should I tag here if we want to talk about this

https://remoteindian.slack.com/archives/C6MCFN6TB/p1648647933954879 We have plans to work on to organize RI better. We had planned to move to discord, but looking at the bandwidth, we decided to look at discord at a later time and work on the other important aspects first.

@polite-secretary-64403 thanks for giving the details! The slack 10k limit is not letting me see the message which has core team membersπŸ˜… If bandwidth is the only problem, i can prolly help speed up the slack archive viewer or help start the shift to discord.

If you guys can bear the cost of hosting, then Mattermost team edition is pretty nice too. The team edition is free but you need to self-host it.
And for $149/yr, they can take care of hosting as well - https://mattermost.com/pricing/
LMK if you want more details on this. P.S., I work for Mattermost πŸ˜„

@clever-salesclerk-88021 Can you explore if Mattermost would be interested to sponsor RemoteIndian (by providing a free hosted instance for RI) ? In exchange RI can maybe add the Mattermost logo, testimonials, and a back-link on the RemoteIndian page (or some such promotion).

@polite-secretary-64403 if you don't mind can you tell me how you guys are creating archives? I mean is it manual or automated in some way?

Hello @tall-family-96428, it's a complex manual process but here's what it looks like currently: https://www.loom.com/share/cee42641af5d488ea477a6a3f0651157 Also, curious to see how Mattermost thing works out. Thanks, @chilly-rocket-77832 and @clever-salesclerk-88021 for taking this initiative πŸ™Œ

I kind of feel like the guides approach is a more long term approach. Imagine tomorrow Discord will also ask you to start paying for storing all this chat. And usually Chat is considered ephemeral. Although I understand that we as a community share so much information that you can’t just create manual guides all the time. What can be done though is take a hybrid approach. Maintain static guides for popular topics (top books, top places, top websites, most discussed topics like taxation etc) and chat for a more day to day community flow.

@chilly-rocket-77832 I don't think Mattermost is gonna sponsor this. They are more towards sponsoring developer focus and open source communities. Sorry about that.
You can still run Mattermost team edition for free if you manage the hosting yourself.
Otherwise Discord all the way!
