My first day at a Corporate job tomorrow. Any tips for a Fresher? πŸ˜…

Make good friends, don't take things too seriously, listen to people who're trying to help you, don't gossip/crib about anyone, ignore the people that do that, form your own opinions, there's no rush to get anywhere, own your learning independent of whatever's going on in the company/project.

Focus on learning instead of money, if you're learning continuously, money will follow.

Awesome! Will keep these in mind. 😊

I cannot recommend enough -- "don't take things too seriously" and if possible remain detached from your work.

That's a very good general advice @flat-morning-91037. Specifically for women though, I feel we should encourage negotiation and switching for better pay etc.

Pay equality is still a big issue, and while some tech Cos. have improved it, if one is in traditional service sector in India, there's way too much discrimination.

Don't just get the job you are assigned done quickly under time pressure. The finished task is what the company needs. Understand what you are doing and why you are doing it well because that's what'll remain with you.

@dry-monkey-93718 can you please elaborate a little more on "Don't take things too seriously" advice? I am not able to completely grasp it
d
I guess re-wording it would be "do not attach your self worth to your job." You should probably, take pride make efforts on the quality of your work. Not really focus too much on the validation or useless critisism. There's a saying that roughly translates to "if you offer milk to a stork, it eats the cottage cheese and leaves the water behind" i.e. absorb what's useful and ignore the fluff. Examples: "My co-worker/manager/customer said X about me, I am probably not worthy of this job" or worse "they're assholes". "If we don't use <insert tech> we will be left behind" "I need to qualify for X company by Y years for my career to be meaningful"

Document every small win, feedback, opportunities for improvement. These will help immensely in the future when appearing for interviews (both jobs and higher education).

Be kind and genuinely try to help everyone whenever you can. This will strengthen your "network" and you'll be surprised how it'll all help you in future. Fun fact: I got my current job and couple of projects earlier because I was in random WhatsApp group with someone, reached out and kept in touch with them for the last 5 years (met them for the first time last year at their wedding!)

The β€œdocument every small win” is such a huge thing. Even if not about future opportunities, it definitely is a very important thing for your own self confidence.
