    #tribe A friend of mine has had a bad experience working for an organisation. The company's management was toxic and almost a non-existing work-culture. I can vouch that it was indeed true, because I had faced the same problems as he did, when I was in that same company though we belonged to separate teams. Now he is on the lookout for a new job. And we want to be sure that he does not end up in yet another company with a toxic work-culture. The question is: How do you assess the culture of a company without even joining one? Asking for individual references or reviews from sites like LinkedIn maybe an option but, it does not make for a robust process, especially when there are so many companies, job-openings and roles to select from. I am not sure if Glassdoor ratings/reviews are hundred percent reliable, though it maybe helpful in catching red-flags and obvious worst companies. What is your take on this? Is there a way to use Google search phrases to bubble out these companies? Any kind of publicly managed lists or repos?

    Been a while since we discussed hardware (I can't find the older threads 😅). Any recommendations for a monitor? Budget ~12k. The one that was highly recommended the last time was Dell P2419H but it's almost 3 years old now. So I am wondering if there are better, newer ones that you may have tried.

    Is there any one who has tried pair programming to write production code in their team?. I am working with a novice and can see remarkable speed at which they learn doing that. Would that work for people with more or less similar skill level?

    Anyone here who is familiar with
    PyTorch
    ? I need to split the CIFAR10 dataset into training and validation set. The problem is that I wish to apply augmentations to training data. These are applied while loading the data. But if I split the data into validation set it also contains the augmentations which I obviously don't want
    Copy code
    train_transform = transforms.Compose([transforms.RandomRotation(10),
                                           transforms.RandomHorizontalFlip(),
                                           transforms.ToTensor(),
                                           transforms.Normalize((0.5, 0.5, 0.5), (0.5, 0.5, 0.5))])

    train_data = datasets.CIFAR10('data', train=True, download=True, transform=train_transform)

    # Generate validation set - <https://stackoverflow.com/a/51768651|https://stackoverflow.com/a/51768651>
    train_size = int(len(train_data) * 0.8) # 80% training data
    valid_size = len(train_data) - train_size # 20% validation data
    train_data, valid_data = random_split(train_data, [train_size, valid_size])
    This snippet above applies augmentations to validation data (since it is just a part of the originally loaded data). Can I split the data before applying transforms?

    Hey folks, If I am moving from a freelancing/contract role to a full-time role with another firm where my pay might go down by about 3x (yes 3 times), so to offset the income loss, I am considering asking for equity. So, how much each equity should I ask for? I am a complete noob on this so I've no idea how to evaluate equity.

    I just stumbled on Affinity suite of design apps today as I had to do some SVG editing and Inkspace was too difficult to figure out. It is brilliant and at a very affordable, one time licence. (I haven’t bought it as yet) — but wanted to check if anyone else has used it and recommends? https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/ (I had the Photoshop Creative Cloud monthly subscription going which I discontinued last month)

    Hey tribe, I have a use case in which I have about 10 members in a private group (different emails - GMail, Hotmail, etc) and I want to email one email address - for example:
    <mailto:groupname@provider.com|groupname@provider.com>
    which then delivers emails individually to all email addresses (with REPLY TO: my email). Essentially, I want a mailchimp like functionality without having to go through the process of creating a campaign everytime. (I have a Google Apps account as well if there is a hack to get that going). Any suggestions? (Preferable to not have to bother the members to sign up / create an account / etc).
