Would you be interested in an in-depth course about writing tests for legacy code in Flutter? Legacy code is code without a test. In the existing project, we mostly spent 70-80% of the time maintaining code. And test acts as a safety net for our code. But how do we work with a code which does not have any tests? Writing test for legacy code is tricky. However, once we understand the basic principles, we can write tests with legacy code using techniques like Extracting interface, Extract and overriding the method, breaking dependencies with dependency injection. And also use these techniques to write effective units, widgets, golden(screenshot), and end-to-end tests in Flutter. There is already are really good book on this by Michael C. Feathers 1. Working Effectively with Legacy Code And various people in the community have contributed with some good stuff: 1.

Testing Legacy Code Elliotte by Rusty Harold▾

    2.

    Testing and Refactoring Legacy Code▾

Since this topics cover more broadly and not specific to Flutter, I feel that we need more resources on this topic. So what about a course showing how to write tests for an existing real-world project which does not have any tests? And go step by step teaching different techniques? Would you be interested? Would you pay for it? What topics would you like to see covered? Or what challenges do you face while writing tests for the legacy which you would like to see covered? If you are interested then you can help me by filling out this form. For more details check out my website.

Hello Folks, I have built a slack app that basically helps you send memes and pop gifs I had used many such slack apps before. What I found - they all had something I think could be improved. So I decided to build one. Key Problems solved 1. Search results not being relevant to the search term 2. Results are displayed as single image at a time Each of the above problems were solved by 1. Using service like Tenor as search engine a. Tenor takes a data-centric approach to deliver relevant GIF searches in over 45 languages worldwide. (as they say on their website) b. The quality of results thus is highly accurate to the search term. 2. Researching and building up on UI features provided by slack for app integrations. The app is not on Slack App directory, as it is still a WIP. If want to try it, hit me up !! I am calling it meme-machine for now, meanwhile. If I get across a better name, I would use that. I sharing a small video of the work so far.

Any good MERN engineers here looking to join a founding team? Potential for Co-founder/CTO role later. DM me if interested, we're in the B2B creator economy space. Posting on #makers as we prefer someone who has a passion for building useful products and does it on the side anyway. Good if your current role bores you and want to work on something exciting for the next couple of years.

Hi people, I have been working on this side project for the past few months. Happy to share that I have released
    django-websocketclient
python library as my first open source project. 🙂 This library integrates websocket client in django server in order to listen to incoming messages over websocket connection in persisting way. Django-channels is a great for integrating websocket server but it does not have client functionality. This library aims to fulfill that missing requirement. Thank you https://github.com/kirankumbhar/django-websocketclient

Any makers here who have used the Gmail API? We're building a cold email tool and are having trouble detecting bounce rates and reply rates (there's no straightforward API call for this). Happy to pay for your consulting time if you're able to help me figure this out.

Question for Engineers: Anyone here have a love/hate relationship with AWS / GCP (or any other platform you use to manage your cloud infra)? If you’re an engineer I’d love to learn your current frustrations of if any or what you love about the current platforms.

I was long hunting for a decent font picker but there were none so finally decided to create one. Right now it supports only Vue 3 but the goal is to take it forward as a web component and then it could be used by any project. https://www.npmjs.com/package/@formester/universal-font-picker Please show some love if you find it useful. :) This is just built in one day and needs much more improvement: - size optimization - test cases - documentation - customization Planning to add this soon.

I have looking for new problem statements to work on nowadays, especially with possible/ongoing US recessions (focused to makers/engineers instead of general public). I was wondering to try a different approach here, i.e. which SaaS are you paying for nowadays? I believe the price hikes are already here or will come soon, and it may not be a bad idea to build alternatives.
