Being a designer from development background helps me truly understand the problems developers go through on a day-to-day basis. I suggested the idea of starting this channel not just to make another space for sharing resources and insights but help developers to be more "design aware" and solve their doubts related to it. If I were to condense my learning about design so far, it would all come down to contrast between X and Y, X and Y be size, color, number of objects. What do you think?

As it is generally seen that designers are having many ideas to solve a problem in design but it is not always possible in implementation due to multiple factors in consideration,  hence eventually creating friction between engineering and design.

While hiring a designer for my team I gave bonus points to designers who understood web technologies or were at least willing to learn about it.

A dev being "design aware" is really moot compared to a designer being "dev aware".

At the end of the day, I'd take an app that doesn't crash over an app that is pixel perfect.

@here I am curious about companies with well established design systems. Do they outsource or get creative professionals for help or everything is handled internally? Can anyone shed some light on it?

I highly doubt if any company outsources getting their design systems made. It’s not just a set of UI elements that gets thrown on top of everything. The biggest problem a design system solves is the miscommunication between design and development. This can only be handled internally. Or at least that’s what I learned while working at insider and paytm :)

So the companies itslef is very broad term. There are tons of companies and all have their own needs. At my past agency, we have worked on bunch of complex design systems for big companies from US and Australia. 

If you're a core product company and tech is your primary medium of communication with your users then probably as said, companies ideally build in-house design system team. But even in that case, many of the companies who are let's say revamping their UX or organising everything under the umbrella of "design system" they do work with agencies or consultants initially who can speed up their design system implementation and then the whole in-house team can easily adapt that and fit into the flow.

For companies like, Paytm, Zomato, Swiggy, etc. they have always focused on UX and design from very beginning, at least they gave it the importance and kept adapting all the latest UX so they're not primarily engineering-heavy company but rather they are product-heavy or holistic company where design has their own it's place and comes into the picture before the prodution.

We worked on one desktop tool which is being used in energy sector for 20+ years and they were going cloud-based as well as revamping their desktop tool with latest tech-stack and modern UX. In their case, it made much sense for them to hire an agency on 6 months retainer to work with their UX-head, PM and development team to develop a design system from scratch. We were mostly on the visual side of things as they already had super senior UX (who designed PayPal's UX) with us for product roadmap. Once we were ready with the DS, we would on-board their designer, developers to smoothly adapt the DS and the whole ecosystem around it.

So to sum up, it all depends on the context and company's vision with the product/ux and their willingness to pour money for it!

Any Alternative to pinterest board? i got lots of screens to add in pin. but it's really time consuming thing as adding screens one by one

I'm not sure what you're exactly trying to achieve but notion's web clipper works for me. Then in the database I just change the properties for it to display a certain way.

I just take screenshots and add them in Figma, then rearrange according to themes etc. (helps in creating a moodboard).

Pinterest seems to be really slow, cumbersome and inadequate for me :confused:

Not using it for daily workflow, but I’ve started using it recently. Their mobile player is definitely better than Figma’s
