Hey folks, lots of good questions on Edge! I'll see what I can answer here based on what I've been digging into: 1. New version of puppet device? @vchepkov: I'm not familiar with puppet device, but I agree there is overlap in the network device story. The goal with Edge is to bring the network devices into the inventory and provide improvements for working with network devices, across many vendors. Skimming through the puppet device docs and man pages, I think that while the overlap exists in some of the story, this is a very divergent technical solution. 2. Bolt for network devices? @tuxmea and @vchepkov: Bolt is being used for task execution, but it doesn't talk to network devices. The EdgeOps module does that instead, and Bolt tasks can be used to execute the EdgeOps module (or the Playbook Runner). I have some code samples and flows in this article that might help? Automating Network Devices with NETCONF and YANG in Puppet Edge 3. Puppet inventory or Ansible inventory?: @kenyon: The current version of Edge uses the Playbook Runner server (which has an Ansible control host) to run against the inventory specified on a task. This is currently using a YAML Ansible inventory file. There have been discussions of perhaps more directly tying to the Puppet inventory, but in the current release the inventory are separate. In the Application Load Balancer demo I put together for that article you linked, I didn't need to use an inventory file because I was provisioning a new device. I'm working on another article around Workflows which triggers Ansible against an inventory file and passes the path to the inventory as a parameter to the Playbook Runner.
