eg, infra_serials17726936828251417880tmp and inventory.txt3749405387556217369tmp
Almost all of them are 0 size, but a few are not.
Are the 0-size ones safe to clean up?
Are the non-0 sized ones safe to clean up? šsteveax

06/29/2026, 10:38 PMinventory.txt file is non-load bearing and could be wiped entirely. Not quite ready to do that yet though š
It's been fun finding that we have 4.8 million entries and our file is 563MB.Sharpie

06/29/2026, 11:14 PM*tmp files are probably a symptom of the large inventory.txt file. While removing inventory.txt is recoverable, you may want to retain a copy for an audit trail. Recommendation:
⢠Stop puppetserver
⢠Archive the current inventory off-box as your historical record.
⢠Replace inventory.txt with an empty file owned pe-puppet:pe-puppet, mode 0644.
⢠Delete the orphan *tmp files (the inventory.txt*tmp / infra_serials*tmp matchers from before).
⢠Start puppetserverReid Conti
