What's the trick to enabling the PE Console to display the contents of /etc/puppetlabs/console-services/disclaimer.txt upon login? I have the file created there and that's the path specified in /etc/puppetlabs/console-services/conf.d/console.conf but I'm not seeing it on login. I've restarted the pe-console-services with no change as well. The steps here do not really go into much more detail with this file on disk method.

I don't suppose it's possible that you previously set the disclaimer via the API? I think the API disclaimer is prioritized over the file-based disclaimer.
m
Pretty sure not, I have no disclaimer at all currently or ever have for that matter.
j
I'm guessing you already looked in the console logs for errors and don't see anything about permission issue reading the file, or file not found when it tries to get the disclaimer.txt file?
I wonder if it is a configuration issue with the path to the file? Like perhaps your console.conf has an invalid format so it isn't giving the console services the value?
m
Oh dang, permissions was it. 0644 for the win. Thanks.

I asked the docs team to add some troubleshooting for the two common issues with this: https://help.puppet.com/pe/current/topics/console-access-create-custom-banner.htm Hopefully that will help the next person!
