You could use openbolt as well, but bolt works as well

Would there be any technical or functional reason to use one versus the other? I have to answer all of the technical questions you would imagine from other architects.
b
OpenBolt receives updates. Bolt doesn't
a
Excellent. That means there's only one option and no decision to make.

Ok, I'll review that before posing any additional questions. Much appreciated 🙏

OpenBolt receives updates. Bolt doesn't
This is missing some details here and is incorrect. Bolt does receive updates. The open source Puppet Bolt is no longer receiving updates as of the release of Bolt 5.0. Perforce continues to release updates to Bolt 5.x, but it requires a EULA to sign and is no longer open source. You can see the releases on the official docs. From a technical difference perspective, the heart of things are likely very similar but there are changes that happen in the Perforce Puppet version of Bolt that will be done to support Perforce products like Puppet Core or Puppet Enterprise that are not going to be in OpenBolt (as that wouldn't make sense). So while you could use Puppet Bolt with OpenVox or OpenBolt with Puppet Core, you probably get the best match up by using the one that matches up. The roadmaps/priorities will be more aligned.

Thanks for the info. Contextually, I interpreted @bastelfreak's point relative to my current POC situation, as I have flexibility with non-commercial variants of Puppet and also need to support more than 25 nodes (even in the POC; in short, the goal is to show Puppet working on all permutations of our customer environments...not especially daunting, but the requirements disallow Puppet Core as an option until after the POC).

That's great, I just always want to make sure we're working with the full details! 😄 I hope the POC is going well and let me know if you need me to ask anything with the team that will help!

Awesome, thanks a ton for the assistance!
