The decision to move Puppet to a closed-source mod...

The decision to move Puppet to a closed-source model has understandably angered much of the community and is already well documented. Eliminating the Puppet Enterprise LTS offering, however, directly impacts enterprise customers by increasing operational risk and support burden. At this point, it’s hard to see how these moves don’t alienate both the open-source community and paying customers.

I'm late to the party it seems, where can I read about this?

@vchepkov: Could you elaborate a bit more on the negative impact you foresee here? My understanding was the new model still offers the 2 years of support that the deprecated LTS model has, but perhaps there is a nuance I'm not catching?
v
It is not. A version of PE is supported for 2 years. Last PE LTS went through 8 releases before it became stable. One can't expect enterprises to adopt .0 releases immediately, so the proposed model is effectively reducing support for one year only
j
I think I get it. Since the latest version is the one that is fully supported, and folks don't have trust in the stability of the new release, they don't grab it until at least a few updates in. So that 'full support' year gets truncated because it is effectively almost at limited support by the time a customer upgrades to what was latest (which is now, effectively, already latest-1). Is that what you mean by the 1 year support? Did I get that right?
v
correct

Me and my org share the same view.

Thank you for helping me make sure I have a good picture of how customers are receiving this change. I'll bring this up with the team!
