When you start a job, you’ll get a job id in the response, then you can poll the events endpoint https://www.puppet.com/docs/pe/2021.7/orchestrator_api_jobs_endpoint.html#get_jobs_job_id_events

thanks, yeah, I noticed the job ID, I just wasn't sure if I should check the controller every 1 min or so to see if the job is completed or not.
