Does anyone have any information on how the migration of Digits to Firebase will look for graphcool?
n
@amann Hi Alexander! We’re planning to support Firebase Phone Authentication soon and want to make the migration process for users as smooth as possible! We don’t have a concrete timeline yet however, we’ll keep you up-to-date with any news we have on that end 🙂
h
Any plans for full Firebase Auth integration sometime soon @nikolasburk ? 🙂

With all the I/O announcements for auth, analytics and app performance, as well as a much more friendly pricing model for an auth module than Auth0, it would be so awesome 🙂
a
Agree ^^
n
@amann @halborg we are already working on opening up authentication to create a seamless and unified experience either for built-in auth providers or for "custom" auth providers 🙂 assuming we would offer the same integration for Firebase Auth as for Auth0, would that be enough for your use cases?
h
@nilan - For me, Firebase Auth would be absolutely fantastic, as we plan to utilize other Firebase products as well
n
does Firebase Auth use JWTs as well?
h
Yes 🙂
n
Awesome! How is a token verified?
h
It’s using the OpenID spec, so the token can be verified against a publically available google site using its key ID
Or, see Kato’s answer on this post (Kato is a Firebase employee): https://stackoverflow.com/a/37492640/1409779 - As noted in his “Golang and others” section, you can validate a token using its key ID against the certificates at https://www.googleapis.com/robot/v1/metadata/x509/securetoken@system.gserviceaccount.com
I used it to write my own auth microservice back when we were evaluating going in the route of building our own backend, but decided against it in favor of you guys (as you know). As you also know, this leads to our main wish from graphcool to be a Firebase Auth integration, and we’re postponing implementing our login flow until we hear any news 🙂
n
gotcha! this ties in perfectly with the upcoming rework for our auth providers that I mentioned before 🙂 just making sure Firebase Auth is straightforward and does not involve some crazy unexpected workflow 😛
h
👍 - Sounds awesome! 😄

+1 for Firebase Auth support
Auth0 is tooooo expensive for small projects
n
@the_bluescreen Auth0 is free for up to 7000 monthly active users - how big of a user base are you targetting?
t
@nilan you right, there is free plan but if you even get 7001 users, you need to pay 200$ p/m.
n
again, that's not 7001 users, but 7001 monthly active users. that's a big difference 🙂
t
I think it depends to web app you create. 200$ is too much for my opinion. That’s why if you find the way for firebase auth integration (or getting similar system) can be better for graphcool. I can pay more than 50$ for startup plan to graphcool with better auth integration, not 200$ to auth0 for just auth system.
n
🙂 Totally agreed here! Offering a wide range of authentication providers is one of our next big goals, thanks for your feedback! Just wanted to make sure we're on the same page as Auth0 pricing tends to be very confusing 🙂
t
Yeah, you right on that 🙂 Thanks!!

Very happy to hear this. I think firebase auth would be absolutely fantastic - but yes opening up the auth as well would definitely help.

Since Digits is supported, Firebase Auth should work once the the platforms SDK's merge. Right??
