Wonder if there’d be value in moving this community over to https://spectrum.chat
a
why?
m
Because it’s an unpaid Slack plan, we’re losing valuable searchable history from previous conversations
And obviously with this many members, this can never be anything but a free account.
a
Sure it can
m
How so?
a
A few paid accounts, and free single-channel guest accounts on #general for everyone
m
Can only have 5 per paid member
So unless graphcool has 1000 paid members…
a
Ah, didn't know that
How about a 'free Slack membership with your paid Graphcool service'? 😄
It's nice to have 5600 members, but I think I haven't seen more than 50 in here anyways.
m
Yeah, that’s true. Probably a significant number are non-active
a
And I also hate the new Slack limits, but do you really need full history and 10GB storage space here on Slack?
m
No, probably not. Especially with the Forum
a
I was also caught off-guard by the sudden disappearance of history, but knowing about it know will make me take it into account.

There’s too much focus on chats these days. And people like me use them just because I know I’ll get a quicker answer. But the reason you get a quicker answer is because of the UI. If there were forums with a chat like experience in terms of UI, it’d be different. GitHub issues would be a nice model for such forum softwares.

Maybe gitter?
v
Maybe

There's - Slack - Forum - Github - StackOverflow
I do believe that covers a lot of use cases, I don't see the need of adding another 'community platform' to the mix

Definitely not “add”. One thing I’ve always struggled both my own communities in the past and others is that there is not central place for everything.
