Is it still possible to upgrade Graphcool Console projects? If not, will fully hosted solutions be available again soon?
I spent the weekend evaluating AppSync, Prisma Cloud, and Apollo Engine. AppSync is ridiculously bare-bones in terms of schema design. Neither of the other options really solve my use case, which is to make 95% of the backend not my problem. 😛

yes, that is still possible. Prisma Cloud offers a hosted solution for a Prisma Cluster - that is the layer from your DB to GraphQL. Prisma works best with a GraphQL server in front. You can leverage advancements of the GraphQL community (such as GraphQL bindings) and tools like Apex Up or Zeit Now to get to a serverless experience overall.

Not quite the same? I'm a one-person team on some projects and am looking for the equivalent of Firebase for graphql. Which, for many purposes, Graph.cool was! 😅
n
is it the hosting that you're most interested in, or rather the "out-of-the-box" experience?
a
Out-of-the-box. Once my client is satisfied with the way an app works, they can invest their own backend developers on a more scalable solution (if they have to, half the time they don't)
I'm allergic to pager duty 🤣
Also, while I'm whining, it's been three days and no success. Nothing has shown up in my cloud Console, the Playground keeps crashing, etc. Migration has been a disaster

I'm sorry to hear @allpwrfulroot, that should absolutely not be the case. Are you facing a specific issue that I can help you with? 🙂

I eventually got the demo working, locally and on the cloud. Prisma Cloud feels like it's at a weird point between DIY and turnkey: some of the stuff is done for me, but it's not completely clear what and how, and I still have to tackle all these pieces. A little confused why there isn't a smidge more available in a Docker container so I can one-step deploy my own Graph.cool clone to AWS?
n
Yup, that sounds very appealing! 🙂 You're not the first one with similar thoughts, and I think keeping an eye on this post is a good idea: https://www.graph.cool/forum/t/prisma-as-a-service/2322?u=nilan. We don't have specific plans here yet, but will carefully listen to your feedback. Let's see 🙌
