#235 feat: Add runtime deprecation notice Pull request opened by Copilot
pact-standalone
is being deprecated in favour of the Rust-based CLI tools. Users invoking these tools — especially those with automated setups — have no visibility into this fact. Changes • Added a
$stderr.puts
deprecation warning at startup to all six active
.rb
entry point files:
pact-broker
,
pact-message
,
pact-mock-service
,
pact-provider-verifier
,
pact-stub-service
,
pactflow
• Added suppression mechanism via the
PACT_DISABLE_DEPRECATION_WARNINGS=true
environment variable for programmatic/automated use cases • Documented the deprecation warning and suppression mechanism in
README.md
and
packaging/README.md.template
On every invocation, users will now see:
Copy code
WARN: This CLI is deprecated and no longer receiving updates. We recommend you upgrade to the latest CLI: <https://docs.pact.io/implementation_guides/cli>
To suppress the warning, set:
Copy code
PACT_DISABLE_DEPRECATION_WARNINGS=true
Writing to
$stderr
keeps the notice cross-platform (the
.rb
files are the shared entry point invoked by both Unix
.sh
and Windows
.bat
wrappers) and avoids polluting stdout, which some wrapper tools parse programmatically. pact-foundation/pact-standalone
