LOOKING FOR DEVELOPERS Savline Roleplay
# support-forum

Hi! Savline RP is looking for interested developers to help us develop our server for open.mp! We cannot pay for development services at this time, so it would have to be voluntary (i.e. interested in roleplay) We are after: - Developers who can develop in Pawn and work with MySQL - Interested candidates willing to develop If you're interested, please let us know. Thanks! HellFury Savline RP Leadership
a
how much will you pay
b
As I stated earlier, we unfortunately cannot pay.
a
What you offer then? What will i gain from working for you + you edited it it wasnt said that you wont pay
b
It always said in the initial post that we can't pay for development - I edited a typo
As for what we offer, a dev might be entitled to join the staff team, start their own faction, etc. It's unfortunate but we aren't able to offer payment at this time. At no stage have we been secretive about that. I know it kinda sucks but that's why we're being honest about it - someone might do it out of interest or free will. I understand some have to make money and that's why we don't take it personally - we're just not in a position to pay developers at this time.
g
Work for even more work. Nice
b
If you don't want to do it then don't do it - nobody's forcing you. It's not rocket science. There's a reason I specifically said earlier that it'd have to be voluntary, such as if you're interested.
b
If you can't offer any value to the person who will be using his time and skills to make your server a reality, then I don't think anyone is going to apply for this. There is no incentive for anyone to do it. They are not getting paid, they don't own the script or the community, everything they write/written can be taken from them. This would be closer to slavery. This is why most communities are run by people who are coders themselves or have the money to pay their staff and developers. It would be better for the scripter to script their own script and sell it, then to work for someone else without any tangible reward.
b
You make fair points, it's why we don't take things personally, since people have to make a living and whatnot. Some do script out of interest, and that's what we're basically looking for. I understand not many would necessarily be interested based on the points you made, and that's okay with us, because you've made very fair points. We're just putting it out there for anyone who may be interested in doing it because you never know.
s
I agree with you, I think his project works like most servers, there are also servers with coders who do it for free, coders aren't always good managers too
b
@bulky-megabyte-28202 @sparse-terabyte-2385 Ofc there are people who will be willing to do it for free mostly for the experience and chance to grow. But it's in your best interest to provide them with something tangible as a reward. I would want some partnership in your server, and to even take a cut of any money you make for running the community, a share would be whatever if left after operating costs are paid. This is the bare minimum I would at least expect, if it was me hiring someone to work on my community, I would give them co-owner at least and 70/30 split to them if the community ever made money, cause at the end of the day the scripters have more work to do, and it's a huge commitment of time for them. It's easy to be the owner of a server, and even setup up a server in comparison to coding. A level of trust should be given to someone who essentially is building your entire or the main focus of your platform.
b
Currently the community hasn't got any money coming in as of yet (we'll probably look at potential VIP options or that sort of thing as well and split those costs as you suggested). Again though, you've made excellent points. There are possibilities that can be explored, I can't see why we wouldn't be open to sharing a cut of money coming in from the community after operating costs if/when such a stream of income starts to come in. We're open to discussion on these matters, by all means.
s
Do you mean cooperation and some of the money from donations?
b
I see no reason we wouldn't be open to stuff like this
w
Where are you from?
m
youc an search for newbies in programming, just they work without money
s
This used to be my community lol
I’ve offered them to host and to script in return of me being the owner again but they keep telling they would put me in a developer position. I give up asking. I am helping HellFury in another project that I enjoy. Issue is your failing to understand that I am working for free and on my own time. @bulky-megabyte-28202 I should’ve probably dmed u instead of posting here but eh it’s fine
a
that just confirms he wants all the control over it and someone to make everything just for him
b
I could say quite a bit in response, seeing as that is by no means the full story, but rather than embarrass this guy in public and make this into a petty slang match thread, I'll abstain. If that makes me a bad guy in the eyes of a few willing to draw a conclusion from one side then so be it. As for wanting control, we have a management team and I'm one of two owners with whom I discuss basically everything, so that's straight-up bullshit.
I'm Australian, personally
a
hows the weather there bro
b
So far so good, warm
s
Why newbies?
b
I think most seasoned devs work for money, while newbies tend to work for free because they want to learn to code, that sort of thing
s
Then why don't you look for people who will do it for money when you know you'll find more people for money?
b
Because we're not really in a position to pay people right now, otherwise we would
s
Will you be paying from donations, not from your own pocket?
l
because its samp
s
Is that a reason?
l
I guess so, Don't you think? Wouldn't you be paying if it was gtaV?
m
work is work
s
Hey there, i'm second owner of this community. We're not in capable of paying anyone right now. If someone really helps us doing the script for free and as in future that person will be awarded and appreciated for his kindness and also as a reward he'll get the credit he would deserve.
s
I'd even pay for a samp
h
I am sorry buddy, but you cannot launch something without investing upfront. You are both pretty much begging someone here to code for you for a reward that is most likely virtual, which can be taken away for any reason at any time. I would totally understand if somebody coded for someone for free, if they are either family related or friends, but that is simply not the case for you guys. No serious developer (serious as in experienced) is going to do anything for you, unless you are willing to invest in him with cash, as that is something they can hold on to. You are better off trying to learn coding yourself, while you are looking for someone more experienced, who could even potentially help you to code yourself, so that you won't be at this point again, once your former developer leaves for any reason.
n
you cant own a samp server without knowing how to code, so get to learning
b
Can't say I agree with you there but I understand your viewpoint
g
How do you plan on hotfixes for bugs? Who dictates if a suggestion is viable or not?
b
We discuss stuff as a team - devs are always welcome to suggest stuff they want or think is good, and we talk stuff through - sure we eventually come to a final decision based on what's best for the server but a dev will always have a fair say and we'll always be open to some level of compromise. I do also want to point out, we do have people who've joined up and are helping us with development, but if anyone else is interested, you're still more than welcome to reach out and we'd love to hear from anyone who might wish to do this out of interest 🙂
g
Dev should have more than a fair say especially if they're the ones running the server and know the limits. Fuck slow mode They're the fools developing for a server for free. I doubt their competency
b
If you've got a stick up your arse about money then go find someone who'll pay. I've explained a number of times, nicely, what we're doing and how. We can't pay at this time. Nobody's forced into doing this for us, it's just there if people are interested. Insulting other devs who are willing to work for free isn't a very nice thing to do either. Thank you.
i
Bloody east coast people. First you want our gst, now you want our coding
s
s
look what they did to your baby @sparse-dusk-41601
s
I’m working on it
