I'd like to try to figure out two things before/during your refactoring.  The first is to make sure we know the answer to the question in the PR/issue above: • could we maybe make the Delta not an Event? Maybe the answer “Noes, what a terrible idea”, but it’s not totally clear to me. It might be less error-prone!
