Good callout and thank you for working on this! Not sure if Graham or Engel saw this but it might just be on their lists of things to look at. I'll set a reminder to follow up as well and can ping around to get some attention. I don't personally have a strong opinion on this area of the codebase or I would offer it 🙂
@limited-student-10747 and @calm-artist-7206 if you get a minute can you take a peak at this PR comment. Seems like the bot reviews are giving contradictory paths and we could use a human review

Just to note quickly my (tentative) understanding on this: VSCode can be accessible on local backends if we either:
• use a different host (which is a bit annoying to set up maybe) • use the same host (then it gives it access to local storage, which according to the agent might mean to other backends…)
For the record, the Cloud uses a different host
But I could be wrong, this needs a bit of thinking

Just a quick follow up here, IMHO we are good to let VSCode on the same origin; one reason is that other code also has access to all backends currently, and addons will likely have too. My agent filed another issue on moving backends details out of local storage. I think we touched on this before, and it’s not obvious how we should do it instead, but I think maybe it’s worth thinking about.
