Hey folks, what am I doing wrong? Looks like the most generic setup ever, default LLM provider, from OpenHands, simple Github sign-in, nothing fancy.
t
It may be that your GitHub personal access token is not set up yet.
g
Did I miss the step of onboarding where I need to create one? And where here? Github is indeed connected. Also, it's never called "Settings", and the "Automations" icon is very similar to a gearbox, so I assume it's "Settings" a dozen times already.

@nutritious-balloon-65098 can you help troubleshoot this issue?
n
I'm on it! Owen can track my progress here.
Analysis & Fix The Slack thread reports two issues: 1. ✅ Fixed: Automations icon looks like Settings (gear) Root cause: The
automations.svg
icon is a circle with 12 radiating lines (like gear teeth) and a play button in the center. At the sidebar's 18×18px icon size, it reads as a gearbox/cog — nearly identical to the lucide
Settings
gear icon that sits right below it. Users repeatedly click Automations thinking it's Settings. Fix: Replaced the custom
automations.svg
with lucide's
Zap
(lightning bolt) icon. The lightning bolt is: • The universal visual metaphor for automations (used by Zapier, Make, etc.) • Visually distinct from the Settings gear at any size • Already part of the
lucide-react
dependency — no new packages needed The change is minimal (2 lines in
sidebar-rail-body.tsx
), typecheck passes, and all 14 sidebar tests pass. 2. 🔍 GitHub PAT issue — needs more context The user says "GitHub is indeed connected" but something isn't working. Without the actual screenshots or error messages referenced in the Slack thread, I can't fully diagnose this. It could be: • A PAT with insufficient scopes (e.g. missing
repo
scope) • A connected OAuth app vs. fine-grained PAT mismatch • A UI state showing "connected" while the token is actually expired This likely needs more info from the user to reproduce. Would you like me to: • Push this to a new branch and create a PR? • Keep the changes local for now? • Also investigate the GitHub PAT issue further if you can share the screenshots?

Full Analysis I can't view the embedded screenshot images from the Slack thread — the
\n\n
blocks represent image attachments that aren't accessible as text. However, based on the conversation flow and thorough codebase exploration, here's what I can piece together: Issue 1: ✅ Automations icon confusion (already fixed) The
automations.svg
is a circle with 12 radiating lines (gear teeth) + a play button center. At 18×18px it's visually indistinguishable from the lucide
Settings
gear icon below it. Replaced with lucide
Zap
(lightning bolt) — commit is ready. Issue 2: GitHub PAT onboarding gap From the conversation: • User signed in with GitHub OAuth ("simple GitHub sign-in") • Something isn't working ("what am I doing wrong?") • Someone says "your GitHub personal access token is not set up yet" • User asks "Did I miss the step of onboarding where I need to create one?" • User shows GitHub appears "connected" but operations fail What I found in the code: The onboarding flow (
onboarding-modal.tsx
) has 4 steps: 1. Check backend connection 2. Choose agent (OpenHands / Claude Code / Codex) 3. Set up LLM (API key + model) 4. Say hello (launch first conversation) There is no step for GitHub PAT setup. GitHub OAuth sign-in authenticates the user to the platform, but a separate Personal Access Token is needed for the agent to interact with repos (clone, push, create PRs). The
provider_tokens_set
in settings tracks this, but there's no guided onboarding step for it. Additionally, the settings nav (
settings-nav.tsx
) has no dedicated "Git" or "GitHub" page — git identity fields (username, email) are buried inside Settings → Application (
/settings/app
). There is no obvious place for a user to set up a GitHub PAT in the OSS/agent-canvas path. What I can't determine without screenshots • The exact error the user was seeing (repo clone failure? push failure? 403?) • Whether this is a Cloud-specific issue (Cloud has its own
provider_tokens_set
flow) vs the OSS path • What the "GitHub is indeed connected" screenshot actually showed Recommendation If you can share the screenshots (or describe what they showed), I can dig deeper into the specific failure path. The icon fix is committed and ready. Would you like me to: • Push to a branch and create a PR for the icon fix? • Also investigate the GitHub PAT gap further with more context about what the user was seeing?

Hey @gentle-scooter-14437 - Can you DM me your email so I can pass this on to an internal ticket on the issue? I just saw another report of the same error but I'm not able to reproduce it when trying with my account. I'm hoping we can see the common thread with two accounts.
One other thing to try just in case can you see if this happens with a different LLM selected besides Fable
h
hey Dima - I submitted a fix for this earlier this week. If you're down for a workaround, please delete any non-default LLM profiles you have and see if that works for you. If not, I'll follow up with the new release to make sure things are working
