All the skills are created on the basis that the person using them is on a mac or linux machine. How do you all feel about revamping extensions and in turn skills to be OS agnostic? Case in point, I had to redo the Slack skill otherwise it was failing on Windows. Right now I am in the process of re-writing the github skills because they too will fail on Windows without. And still running into issues. I had OpenHands do a write up that can view on my notion But TLDR 1. add a dedicated automation creation tool/helper -- this eliminates No bash. No PowerShell translation. No temp path issues. 2. replace shell packaging instructions with Python helpers -- e.g. python3 is used all the time, that creates an error on Windows 3. stop using setup.sh as the default preset bootstrap -- replace with a python bootstrap because python works on all three OSes 4. [...] 5. add a skill inter for OS-specific patterns e.g.
/tmp/
The list goes on you get it Open to feedback! Roast me! Definitely want to have a discussion on this.

Good question... I think I'd prefer a Windows-converter skill 🤔

The windows skill would then need to be used with every skill, right?
Won't that be more expensive for the Windows user. They'll have to use more tokens if it's two skills or the skills needs translating.

Slightly, yes

Were the skills opinionated to linux and mac to begin with to make them more reliable?

Mac/Linux are by far the most common platforms, and e.g. if we import a skill from somewhere on github, I personally think to tell the agent to convert Claude Code into OpenHands or neutral, but we don't normally need to worry about bash commands or scripts from this point of view = they will be Mac/Linux
An alternative is to keep a repo of Windows alternatives, if you feel strongly about it... Definitely an automation could keep it up to date

Mac/Linux are by far the most common platforms,
common platforms for openhands or all developers? i would say majority use Windows According to perplexity's findings Now this is self reported but 🤷

I tend to agree with Jamie that Windows is more common than you would think, although less common in the OSS community for obvious reasons. I'm going to be taking a look at this today and see if we can come up with a reasonable option. One nice thing about skills is that they allow you to add additional references in addition to SKILL.md, so we could possibly have OS-specific instructions be an additional reference file.

Oh, that sounds like a better option! I'd just love it to not mix it in the regular Linux/Mac files
