Does it make sense to show these options in cloud automations page as well? I believe the prompts would be specific local/polling mechanisms?

Good call. Not sure how to handle that one. For a VM based cloud backend that is still correct I think. But for the OpenHands cloud backend they would not. Does agent-canvas have any understanding of the openhands cloud vs other remote backends?
q
Yep canvas understands cloud vs remote backends
h
Short term we could remove it for cloud specifically so there isn't any confusion or misconfigured skills. @breezy-kilobyte-39430 was just talking about some design changes for automations to help differentiate automations on local vs the openhands cloud vs your own remote server that could come after.

Those look very cool! I didn't realize they wouldn't work on cloud... sorry I'm dense, why don't they, is that temporary and meant to solve, or ...?
q
I believe its temporary, the cloud would work directly with webhooks (github based ones should work as of today, we can tweak the page for cloud to account for this) These default proposed automations in the screenshot however work via polling locally, which would hide that fact that cloud supports webhooks already

Right, though one could want to poll on the cloud, because then it's not restricted to an installed app/repo...
q
Hmm this is true also I suppose the agent skill should at the very least account for this, and ask the user whether they would like to perform polling via mcp creds vs setup built-in/custom webhooks

That is the eventual plan - once we have the integration hub online, we will update the skills to use webhooks in cloud instead of polling.
q
So we're going to do polling by default for cloud as well for now?
f
No - we should disable this for cloud for now
h
sorry got pulled away before I could finish my thought here. Agree we should remove from cloud. I'd rather not cause confusion and/or misconfigured automations

When the user tries to create an automation for: • GitHub responder • Slack responder We should have a modal that shows two options, left and right: • Poll locally on your laptop--keeps everything on your machine, but stops polling when your laptop is off • Use OpenHands Cloud--always responds even when your laptop is closed And "Use OpenHands Cloud" should link to https://app.all-hands.dev/settings/integrations

Hiep fixed them showing for cloud already and I've added the issue to add the modal on Local backends: https://github.com/OpenHands/agent-canvas/issues/868
