out of curiosity why npm + docker? Ideally I'd like to be able to deploy this via a compose file on a VM and interact with it that way, is the canvas itself not containerized and then using containers under the hood?

You can run dockerless on a VM!
But yes, canvas runs raw, and then there's (optionally) a container for running agents
might make sense to just put the frontend inside the container too
I would say this is not the final installation path, we're still in dev mode
but it's roughly the architecture we're going for

Having a stand alone container with both parts would be a nice VM alternative. There are many options for running a container and training canvas all the ways to launch them might be (?) more work in the end. Podman is what I use over Docker but also I betting Mac people would prefer installing Apple's container framework (https://github.com/apple/container) over installing Docker or setting up a VM.
But also training canvas how to work with multiple container frameworks is also a valid option.

Neat! Yeah I think we may prioritize the dockerless option, then give folks guidance on the best ways to sandbox it
