Anyone else experiencing the following error using Qwen3.5 35B A3B?
Tool 'str_replace' not found. Available: ['terminal', 'file_editor', 'task_tracker', 'browser_navigate', 'browser_click', 'browser_get_state', 'browser_get_content', 'browser_type', 'browser_scroll', 'browser_go_back', 'browser_list_tabs', 'browser_switch_tab', 'browser_close_tab', 'browser_get_storage', 'browser_set_storage', 'default_create_pr', 'default_create_mr', 'default_create_bitbucket_pr', 'default_create_azure_devops_pr', 'tavily_tavily_search', 'tavily_tavily_extract', 'tavily_tavily_crawl', 'tavily_tavily_map', 'tavily_tavily_research', 'finish', 'think']
I'm running Q4_K_L from unsloth, with F16 KV-Cache (non-quantized), and thinking disabled (although I did get this error at the same frequency with thinking enabled) This happens regardless of context size, and can occur even at the very beginning of a conversation. Is OpenHands missing a tool? Or is the Qwen3.5 models specifically expecting it to exist for some weird reason?
m
I see a similar behavior running w/ Qwen 3 Coder Next 80B FP8. As I understand it,
str_replace
is not tool, but rather a command for the
file_editor
tool. After a mistake like this, OpenHands will usually get it to recover on a the second or third try. does it succeed eventually if you let it go?
f
Yeah it succeeds on the second try 👍 Do you happen to use the GUI or the CLI?
m
I use the CLI, but have lately learned that they both share the same backend SDK.. so behaviors like this should (I think) be common between them both
f
Do you use event-based condensing or token-based condensing? It seems the GUI only let's me define a threshold for context condensing based on "events". This means sometimes my llm breaks because it stops due to context overflow. I've heard the CLI supports token-based condensing. Do you use that?
m
this is an area where I have been uncertain as well. I think I am using token-based condensing in my current config.. %60 confidence 😆 https://openhands-ai.slack.com/archives/C06U8UTKSAD/p1773251207524289?thread_ts=1773250124.099989&cid=C06U8UTKSAD

Yeah, like that guy I can't see any agent_settings.json file anywhere. I'll continue the thread there instead 🙂 Thank you!
