What's the difference between the
AGENTS.md
skill in a repository and the skills in the
.agents/skills
folder in the repository?
w
I believe these are competing standards. There's a difference in behavior though. IIUC: • AGENTS.md is always loaded into context • skills only have their
description
loaded into context, and the agent decides to open up the skill if it thinks it needs it

I have some silly skills: https://github.com/mamoodi/Test-Repo/tree/main/.agents/skills These don't have descriptions. They both work though.
c
One of those (maybe both?) are old OH skills with trigger. They are supposed to still work, when the user uses that trigger
I think the agent will not be able to trigger them (it doesn't know about them, if they are not in Agentskill format). Agentskill format is a folder per skill, for example this is minimum: https://github.com/OpenHands/extensions/tree/main/skills/codereview-roasted
b
So .agents/skill is different than the skill per folder?
c
I think of it this way: • we support the new format, Agentskills format (with directories and more stuff inside than just one .md file) • we still load the old OH "microagents" -> "skills" (a single .md file with its meaning) and keep compatibility
b
Okay. Any plans on deprecating the old style or no reason to do that?
c
I don't know of a reason to deprecate, frankly it seems to me it all works and can work very well. Give or take that I'm not sure we explain it well enough in the docs...
b
Okay cool. Yeah I don't think the "new" way is even in the docs.
Thanks!!!
