Really cool about ACP integration with the toad inferface. I’d love to be able to pass parameters to it though, such as the new
--llm-approve
or
--resume --last
. Since this is managed at the ACP level, is there a way to configure how openhands is invoked under the hood?
c
I think you can launch stuff like
toad acp "openhands acp --llm-approve"
🙂
i
Alright,
toad acp "openhands acp --llm-approve"
worked, yay!
However,
toad acp "openhands acp --resume --last"
failed with error:
Copy code
Agent returned a failure code: 2 - usage: openhands [-h] [--version] [-t TASK] [-f FILE] [--resume [RESUME]]
                 [--last] [--exp] [--headless] [--always-approve |
                 --llm-approve] [--exit-without-confirmation]
                 {acp,serve,mcp,login,logout} ...
openhands: error: unrecognized arguments: --resume --last"

@nutritious-balloon-65098 please create an issue on OpenHands/OpenHands-CLI to document this issue - i think it is because openhands acp doesn't support --resume command yet Also, clone OpenHands/docs and modify documentation for https://docs.openhands.dev/openhands/usage/run-openhands/acp - we should include Toad there - you should bring over instructions from https://www.openhands.dev/blog/20251218-openhands-toad-collaboration to there, and also note that you can launch toad with specific openhands command line args by doing things like
toad acp "openhands acp --llm-approve"

I'm on it! Xingyao Wang can track my progress here.
Summary I've completed both tasks: 1. GitHub Issue Created Created issue #260 on OpenHands/OpenHands-CLI documenting the
--resume
command limitation: • URL: https://github.com/OpenHands/OpenHands-CLI/issues/260 • Documents that
openhands acp
doesn't support
--resume
and
--last
flags when invoked via Toad • Includes reproduction steps, error message, and analysis 2. Documentation Updated Created draft PR #212 on OpenHands/docs to add Toad to the ACP documentation: • URL: https://github.com/OpenHands/docs/pull/212 Changes made to `openhands/usage/run-openhands/acp.mdx`: • ✅ Added Toad section with description from the blog post • ✅ Added installation instructions (
uvx batrachian-toad
) • ✅ Added step-by-step guide for using OpenHands with Toad • ✅ Documented how to pass command line arguments:
toad acp "openhands acp --llm-approve"
• ✅ Added note about
--resume
flag limitation with link to issue #260 • ✅ Added Toad Documentation link to "See Also" section Would you like me to mark the PR as ready for review, or make any additional changes? View full conversation

Hey @important-diamond-63626 - we just cut a new release on CLI!
openhands acp --resume
should be supported now
i
Thanks, @chilly-france-44439. I have just updated to v 1.7.0 and the acp command with toad enters the UI successfully
toad acp "openhands acp --resume --last"
However, it doesn’t seem to recover the last conversation, so it looks like the
--resume --last
doesn’t take effect.
Here is the capture of running the toad + openhands command, then asking to summarize last steps.
Here is the capture of running just
openhands --resume --last
, then asking the same: you can see there are some actions from the ongoing conversation
What do you think?
On a side note, it looks like the CLI UI in 1.7.0 looks similar to toad anyways…
Also, I can’t get openhands to open a previous conversation by id now as in
openhands --resume 501c205a-f5fc-4e2b-a489-a377e51de49c
I get following error:
Copy code
ValueError: The Agent provided is different from the one in persisted state.
Diff: condenser:
  keep_first: 2 -> 4
  max_size: 240 -> 120
I started that conversation with the previous version, not 1.7.0, could that be it?
Oh, wait,
toad acp "openhands acp --resume --last"
does work now, with a new conversation, which I have started with 1.7.0, but not with a previously started conversation

I get following error:

ValueError: The Agent provided is different from the one in persisted state.
Diff: condenser:

  max_size: 240 -> 120
😞 ugh we probably messed something up by bump up the default value for condenser (there was a bug with the old setting) @nutritious-balloon-65098 please create a new issue on OpenHands/OpenHands-CLI about this.

Summary I've completed all the requested tasks: GitHub Issues Created 1. Issue #260 - openhands acp doesn't support --resume command when invoked via Toad ◦ Documents the issue where
toad acp "openhands acp --resume --last"
fails 2. Issue #271 - Resume fails with ValueError when condenser settings differ from persisted state ◦ Documents the new issue where resume fails due to condenser settings mismatch (
keep_first: 2 -> 4
,
max_size: 240 -> 120
) Documentation PR Created PR #212 - docs: Add Toad terminal interface to ACP documentation (Draft) Changes to `openhands/usage/run-openhands/acp.mdx`: • ✅ Added Toad section with description from the blog post • ✅ Added installation instructions (

@chilly-france-44439 related to the above, it looks like I can’t continue a conversation, which was started with a different model, is this expected? Here I am changing provider from Poe to Anthropic, but still using Claude-Haiku-4.5, just with a different billing structure.
Copy code
ValueError: The LLM provided is different from the one in persisted state.
Diff: base_url: '<missing>' -> '<https://api.poe.com/v1>'
enable_encrypted_reasoning: True -> False
max_input_tokens: 200000 -> '<missing>'
max_output_tokens: 64000 -> '<missing>'
model: 'anthropic/claude-haiku-4-5-20251001' -> 'openai/Claude-Haiku-4.5'
c
this is a known restriction unfortunately 😞 to get it work now, you need to go to the conversation dir and change the model too on
base_state.json
file We are working on a fix now (cc @calm-artist-7206) and it should be there in the next release! https://github.com/OpenHands/software-agent-sdk/issues/1451
