There is some stutter in the motion blur which makes me think this could be done in Paraview, too... The smooth looping of the animation is very impressive in any case!

What's the utility of this kind of rendering of CFD results?
  • y

    Yann

For pure results analysis, none. For communication: producing material easily understandable by general public. We often have visitors at the office who have no science background and they usually don't understand a single thing if you start showing some velocity/pressure fields or graphs. We show this case a lot to explain what we do with CFD (aka: trying to compute how things behave in real life) For marketing: our clients usually need our help to develop a product and they are interested in good looking visuals they can use for marketing purpose, to communicate about their development process, performance of their product, etc (and once again, if the product targets general public, you need something good looking and easy to understand)

A friend helped me for a mesh once, that I was supposed to use for a presentation. I am glad I checked the name before since it was the same joke on the title, ready to be displayed at a meeting 😂

I once complained to a coworker that diffusion was eating all my turbulence noodles. They were more than a little confused...

Nah seems legit just the coloring is a bit off 😄 normally its cool on top and hot on bottom, here it seems viridis on both

maybe it seems a bit off to you because you did it in 3D and 2D is kinda different because of the inverse energy cascade

yeah that makes a huge difference, at some point all vortices merge and the simulation gets boring

unfortunately i don't have the exaflop at hand required for the 3d simulation at the same resolution xD
