🎉 New beta feature: Quickly convert your Observable Notebooks into Framework data apps! 🎉 Hi everyone ~ If you’re a notebook user, but haven’t yet taken the leap into Observable Framework to build custom data apps, now is the time! 🚀 We just released our built-in convert command, which converts your public Observable notebooks into Markdown for use in Framework data apps. Create a new Framework project, and run the convert command:

npm run observable convert <notebook-url>

or

yarn observable convert <notebook-url>

Usually, it just takes a few manual tweaks to get your app up-and-running. Check out the convert documentation to learn about limitations, more options (including to convert multiple notebooks at once!), and tips for updating your notebook code for Framework compatibility. And, for a broader overview of how Observable Notebooks and Framework work together, read our latest blog post. Go ahead and give the convert command a try. 👋 Hello Observable Community! Today we’re announcing big updates in the summer release of Observable Canvases. Over the past few months we’ve been busy adding features, making changes based on feedback from early testers, and improving canvas UI, UX, and workflows to streamline data analysis from data access to final presentation. Here’s what’s new in canvases: • An expanded suite of advanced charts like Sankey diagrams, bump charts, arc maps, and beeswarm charts. In canvases, our built-in interactive charts lower the cost of exploring different views of your data, so you can uncover more patterns and anomalies in a fraction of the time. • You can now embed canvas nodes in existing internal applications. Deliver fast, interactive canvas content to your team, wherever they’re already in the habit of looking. • Quickly share canvas content as a dashboard. Just draw a frame around any of the canvas, then right click to create a tidy dashboard with a separate URL you can immediately share with stakeholders. • We’ve added support for Postgres and Databricks, in addition to Snowflake and file imports with DuckDB-Wasm. • We’ve improved canvas access and version controls, including a new view-only mode and automatic version history. We’re excited to share recent updates to Observable Canvases that make dashboards easier to build, and better to use, so that they don’t end up rotting in your organization's app graveyard 🪦. Here’s what’s new: • A single UI that keeps all your data work in one place: No more tool switching and separate workflows for dashboard development. With the dashboard builder in canvases, just pick which parts of your canvas exploration and analysis get added to a presentation-ready dashboard. With everything in one place, you minimize redundant work and time spent on dashboard upkeep. • Lightweight options to deliver custom, interactive visualizations: Our built-in charts are interactive and responsive by default. But sometimes, you’ll want to give viewers other ways to dig into the data. We recently added control nodes, which give you a lightweight way to add widgets (including value sliders, date ranges, radio buttons, and more) for custom user interactions in embeds and dashboards. • Improved viewer experiences: Dashboard editors now have more control over dashboard layouts for added context, polish, interactivity, and responsiveness. Are notebooks v2 available for anyone yet? was curious to try to play around with one

This Slack will continue working for now, but we are no longer directing new people to it, and we will not be reviving the invitation link. We have also archived the feedback repo. We’ve had different strategies over the years, and I’m sorry for the whiplash! We get beautiful messages sprinkled around sites, but any one venue can feel like a ghost town. I’ve too often been absent myself. To engage better with everyone, we want to focus where we do it. Every platform has its pros and cons, but we had to pick one. Why the forum? It’s the oldest, it’s public, it’s indexed, and posts don’t disappear after 90 days. @Lao recently posted about what they miss in the Observable community, and I agree with every point. We’re working on some features, and will have more to share in a couple weeks. And we’re getting back to tweeting more community notebooks on X and Bluesky. What more can we do?
